A car bomb attack at a police station has killed four people and injured up to 10 people, while the city's U.S. consulate has also come under fire, news agencies have reported.

Reuters, quoting Turkey's Dogan news agency, reported that at a police station in the Istanbul neighborhood had been rocked by a blast early on Monday morning. The agency, quoting the Istanbul's governor's office, added that three attackers and a police officer had been killed in an exchange of gunfire following the explosion.

Istanbul police headquarters confirmed to Dogan that three police officers and seven civilians were wounded in the blast, but gave no death toll.

Al Jazeera said the blast struck at about 1am local time on Monday morning in a quiet part of Istanbul, adding that there was no immediate claim for the attack.

I wonder how O’s vacation is going.

Another moderate, relatively stable Muslim country on the verge of going radical... Obama's probably glowing with pride.

Good thing they’re our “allies” huh? Hmmm. How far is it from turkey to greece again? Oh, a stones throw. I remember patrolling the waters between them lookin’ for russkie subs in the late ‘60’s. Greece seems like they’d be easy pickins’ about now. ‘Cept for nato to the rescue. (Mostly U.S. assets)

In a separate incident, the US Consulate in Istanbul has been the site of a gunfight between assailants and security personnel, Reuters reported, quoting local media reports. The reports said that one female attacker had been detained while the hunt was on for another woman, the Istanbul governors office told Reuters Monday, overturning earlier stories of a male accomplice.

Two women ?

I wonder if they were suicide bombers ?

Turkish security forces targeted in series of attacks
[snip] The far-leftist Revolutionary People’s Liberation Army-Front (DHKP/C) claimed responsibility for the attack on the US consulate. One of the assailants, a female who was wounded during the shoot-out with police, was later captured nearby. Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith, reporting from Istanbul, said the woman was chased down a back street near the consulate, and had screamed: “I did it for my party”, before being shot and wounded by police. The second attacker, also a woman, escaped from the area. In 2013, the DHKP/C claimed responsibility for an attack on the US embassy in the capital, Ankara, that killed a Turkish security guard.
