Who’s offering anything better? I’ll answer that for you, no one. Not one other candidate has stepped up and said they’re going to really, once and for all, stop immigration. Not one other has said they’d deport people here illegally. Not one has promised to turn the economy around and meant it, said how they would do it. Not one other has said they would stop ISIS from beheading Christians.

There is no one else who is not business as usual, railing against what’s wrong with no plan to fix it. I don’t mean the repeal-Obamacare line, that’s getting old. Same with the generalities about jobs. I can damn near recite these campaign promises in my sleep. I really feel that Donald Trump is our only hope to break the stranglehold Washington has on us. And I know he’s the only one who stands up to them. You’d better hope he makes it because if they manage to run him out we’re stuck with some version of same-old, same-old and we’re screwed. He is absolutely our only hope.

There, is that a better endorsement?

No, the Donald is showing how to leverages his strength to get what he wants.

Yes. Self promotion. He's a master at it. That's his strong suit. That's what he's always done and what he's always devoted his time and concern to.

Imagine a President, committed to solving our immigration problems, building back our military strength, etc..

Not the Donald's strong suit, nowhere near what the Donald is all about. Never has been a concern of his, not at anytime in his life.

I wonder why anyone thinks it is now.

PAC accounting is public so Jeb won’t be able to have his PACs bribe CNN nor could they do so on their own without reporting their payments.

And besides if Trump is holding a press conference to all other reporting outfits, who cares to watch Jeb Bush on CNN. Maybe a million or two will watch, but 10 million will watch Trump on other networks.

I agree. The media will lie and put only this in the headline :

“Trump demands 10 million dollars from CNN to be in debate”

Then hidden some where in the article will be the words “to be donated to his charities”

Have I progressed or regressed?
Just for the record, I did not call anyone a name.

He is absolutely our only hope.

Really? Sounds messianic. And depressing.

I certainly don't worship Trump but I'm a realist, it's us or them and Trump's with us. These people in the ruling class have their tactics down pat and even with Trump in the race, will probably prevail.

And that's depressing.

[[OMG, I could not agree with you more. I do not dislike Trump, but my God, we are just coming out of a terrible time following people placing such adulation on a PERSON.
It’s just a little frightening.]]

Perhaps you are missing the point. Trump (and Cruz and Carson as well, to a degree) represent a big fat middle finger to the GOPe. I do not believe it is adulation. It is healthy disdain and rebellion. We have to rebel to change the horrible course we are on. We have to pull the country in a different direction and Bush/Kasich/Christie or any of their ilk cannot do it.

Trump's with us.

Trump is with Trump. Alpha and omega. Anything or anyone else be damned.

If you don't know that about Trump, you don't really know Trump.

trump is simply establishing dominance over the media, in public.

IOW, Trump is bitch-slapping CNN, which IMHO desperately needs a public bitch slapping.

given the media’s track record of covering elections, there is probably nothing wrong, and very little to lose.

do a mind experiment and imagine trump on another network, or even over the internet, simultaneously with each and every CNN broadcast live debate. Which would have more viewers? Who benefits? Who loses? If Trump wins the mind experiment, then CNN should be grateful that Trump is firing a warning shot well in advance.

also, let’s not forget the first amendment.

I’m not sure exactly what his calculus is, but I imagine he’s thought through each contingency and figures he’s got a winning hand, whatever CNN’s response is.

Here’s my point: I have been reading posts here for many years and most recently FReepers have been saying...they like Trump (as I do), but they would vote for Cruz. I find that very reasonable, that makes a lot of sense to me. Suddenly everyone is gung ho to vote for Trump. Seeing Trump as President of the United States is a bridge too far. I think of Trump as someone who loses interest in a cause, or job, or whatever. Now, I may be wrong, but that is my OPINION. I hope we are still allowed to have one.
Thanks for your reply. It was thoughtful.

Trump is looking for a way to duck the debate without looking like a coward.

I don't think that is. It's a deal. He knows he's going to bring millions of dollars to CNN. CNN knows it. So why not make headlines and change the game plan? Trump is their cash cow. Let's see what he can wring out of them. IF he can get them to give 10 million bucks to the charity of his choice think of what a publicity windfall that will be.

Or what if CNN just says,”We will not be a party to blackmail by candidates who wish to participate in our debate forum. While we encourage all Americans to contribute to charitable institutions, CNN will not be party to any action that might call into question the integrity of what is one of our most important duties: helping the American people decide who will be the next president of The United States.”

So he says "fine". I'm going to be holding an hour long press conference during the CNN debate where I'm going to lay out some specific policy points.
