Apple moves in to support rapper after he apologized for attacks on women

The new N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton has been accused of glossing over Dr Dre's violent past During his time with the gangster rap group, Dre allegedly beat up three women including his then-girlfriend Michel'le On Friday, Dre issued a statement to the New York Times, apologizing for the mistakes he made in the past Dre said when he was younger, he drank too much and had 'no real structure' in his life However, he said there was no excuse for his violent behavior

Apple has come to the defense of rapper and Beats co-founder Dr Dre following his apology 'to the women I've hurt' as reports of his past altercations with women resurfaced around the release of N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton.

Apple, which acquired Dr Dre's headphone and music streaming company Beats Electronics last year for $3 billion and made Dre an executive, said the company believed in the rapper's sincerity.

'Dre has apologized for the mistakes he's made in the past and he's said that he's not the same person that he was 25 years ago,' Apple said in a statement on Friday.

So Dr. Dre apologizes for his wicked ways back in the day? After profiting how many millions of $$$ off of his old schick? If he were truly contrite and remorseful of the lifestyle he now renounces, perhaps he should donate a significant portion of his net worth toward battered women's shelters and other such organizations? And maybe apple should show some good faith and corporate responsibility by kicking in some dough, surely such good PR wouldn't hurt their bottom line. The chances of that happening are slim and none, and slim left the building.

I hadn't heard this, but I do admire when someone publicly denounces their bad behavior. It helps society to grow.

Sadly, the negative influences such people were responsible for are too often so numerous that an apology is not enough. At the least, a true new walk would be expected (but I can't know if this is the case) and restitution, to the extent possible, is best.

Black men don't witness enough decent behavior to prevent the attraction of gangs.

If someone else had made a vague anti-gay comment thirty years ago Tim Cook would have the person fired immediately. However, since Dr. Dre only abused women and he is black it is okay with Apple.

Compared to Mark Wahlberg, Dr. Dre is a choirboy.

I hope he apologized sincerely, and if so good for him. But the fact is, this is what happens when violent, gangster rappers like Dr. Dre are welcomed as full members to the Establishment of American society. 25 years ago his albums were considered scandalous, far beyond the pale, feared and condemned by the mainstream, on the furthest edge of American pop culture. I know - I owned one of NWA’s albums and felt the need to hide it from my parents.

But less than a generation later, he is now part of America’s new ruling aristocracy, a spokesman for major American companies who without a hint of shame use him to promote their products. But every once in awhile, we are reminded with articles like this why Dr. Dre, and others like him, were shunned by a more prudent, responsible generation.

I guess this means Apple also forgives his use, via initials, of the N-word in the title of the group. Of course, we all knew that OK because blacks can use the word with no regard to PC that constrains the rest of us.

It's a bio pic about a group of young rappers who formed a group named NWA. That's an acronym for "Niggers With Attitude".

Since that is the actual name they chose for themselves, I'm assuming it is OK to use it in general discussion.
