RE: No one cares.

Really? If no one cared, why am I getting two pages of post for this thread? ( and maybe more when the night is over ).

Wouldn’t it have simply died and wasted away if no one cared?

And yet....without the liberals on SCOTUS and their disastrous “New London” decision, wouldn’t Trump’s attempt been even MORE difficult?!

CATO is right; eminent domain should not be used in the way described.

Haven’t most states already addressed eminent domain abuse? I know Kansas has.

Donald Trump has said he uses the law to accomplish what he wants.

Morally right or wrong doesn't make a difference.
He's using the law.

Of course the people with anchor babies are using our law to their benefit.
And collecting food stamps and Medicaid and housing and...

not that there's anything wrong with that, because they're only using the law too.

If he wins the republican nomination, donald trump will be a terrific president, who will not be able to change the law all by himself.

Of course he could always write executive orders, it's the law, so I'm sure he will.

And the Senate and the House love illegals (no matter what party they come from) so I'm sure the laws won't ever change.

In the end, Trump will be able to truthfully say that it's not his fault when the illegals are still flowing in.

RE: Has Trump or any other candidate advocated changing the existing laws concerning eminent domain?

Not that I know of. The reason why I posted this is — the Kelo decision on eminent domain, which Conservatives ( even here in FR ) denounced was authored by Justice Souter.

Trump supported Souter’s decision.

The relevance of this thread is something no reporter has ever asked Trump at all? WHAT IS HIS CRITERIA FOR APPOINTING A JUDGE OR JUSTICE OF THE COURT?

I hope it won’t be another one like Souter.

When has that stopped the Supreme Court. Ever heard of Roe? Dredd Scott and about a thousand other poorly decided cases.

They don’t care about someone losing their property because of eminent domain (unless it’s theirs).

No, but Bush and Kasich BOTH did.

The reason why I posted this is not because I dislike Trump.

Heck, if it boils down between Trump and Bush or Kasich, I’d take Trump.

However, the Kelo decision on eminent domain, which Conservatives ( even here in FR ) denounced was authored by Justice Souter.

Yea— I think that is what I am most worried about too with Trump.. though eminent domain would not be on the top of my list of concerns regarding his appointees..

Drive down the interstate or shop at their local mall or even go to their office or a casino in a large complex downtown. Most land clearing for new development uses eminent domain when a few home owners refuse to vacate.

Trump is a total jerk. I lived in NYC during his glory days, and nothing he did was good for anybody but Trump. He also, with his “reality TV,” had a hugely coarsening effect on society in general.

If Donald Trump wins the republican nomination, I will vote for him.
Not because I like or hate him but because I think he'll do his best, always.

In the primary I will vote for Jeb Bush- because regardless of what every one says about me for it, I like the Bush family, and miss President Bush.

“What an idiot woman.

She could have sold it for $1M in 1980 or so after having been bought in 1961 for $20K.

Even this Trump eminent domain deal was to have given her $250K in 1993.”

Idiot, maybe. But it was HER property, and SHE was free to do what she wanted with it. Including being an idiot by refusing to sell.

Well, I’m a Donald watcher from way back when and remember this issue. Since I became involved in fighting eminent domain at the Jersey Shore in the 90s, I learned a lot. I’m dead set against private corporations taking away property from homeowners. I’d like The Donald to say what he’d do or not do about ed if he became president. It wouldn’t stop me from voting for him because he’s good on other issues but I’d like to know.

Freepers were furious at the Kelo decision. I was here at the time and remember the abuse that Souter justly deserved. We all supported a lost cause to have his crappy old house put under eminent domain. We can’t be the only two who remember this.

That’s exactly how I feel ! It is the ONLY issue for me.

(And how he’ll appoint court justices.)

Yea maybe we could get another John Roberts like Bush appointed. Isn't that what were told? Vote "R" for the judges.
