FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WTVD) -- The notice came overnight: Get ready to respond to a nuclear disaster situation in Southwest Florida. Be ready to deploy for a week.
So early Friday morning, more than 300 20th Engineer Brigade soldiers prepped convoys. Over the next five days they will join more than 400 additional troops in an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise.

I have done EDRE's in my time with Big Army, usually in support of a deployment overseas - THIS one is a deployment in CONUS.
STARTEX was 21 AUG, but there's no ENDEX anywhere.
Several other sites have posted this as well, but this is the only MSM mention I located.

Not in the ABC article. A Google search shows other sites have picked up on it, maybe they have details.

why is the scenario of an exercise news? you're aware every scenario they dream up would be very scary, right? that's sort of their job... to think of the scary stuff and deal with it.
Sarge, sign up the hall monitors for watchtower duty.

Apparently the Chico’s FAS headquarters had some abnormally high bio-agent readings in the past month. Turns out it was a bologna sandwich left in the break room refrigerator.

We had a domestic disaster 2408 days ago, but there was nothing the Army could (or should) have done about it. Fortunately, in 514 days, America is expected to begin recovering from these terrible times.
My big worry is not the evil leading this disaster, it’s the petty minions who cheer for the destruction.

Because it’s August. Congress is out of session and the news cycle gets boring. This is the time of year when semi-interesting things that happen every day without getting reported become “stories”. And with all the recent whining about Jade Helm military exercises have just become “interesting”.
There are no training areas in SW FL, with the possible exception of MacDill AFB. The only real active location is Field Station Key West.
Conjecture is, this is another attempt to desensitize people in to being used to see troops on the streets, pending a martial law scenario.
EDRE’s in past times were always held on military installations, and not out on the economy.
I realize this stands for Continental US, but I couldn't help but think it was in reference to what the GOPe has been doing to US for too many decades!
