There’s not much of a movie, IMO, if you don’t have the revenge fantasy. That’s the point of it.

The very well-played scenes like the opening at the cabin are to show just how detestable Nazis could be. It’s to make them the villains and make you root for the “basterds.” (As if you need motivation to root against Nazis.)
