Rowan Co. Clerk Kim Davis will stay in custody

Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, a Democrat, will stay in custody.

It was a circus in Ashland today, as media, and protesters on both sides of the Kim Davis controversy came nose-to-nose outside the courthouse.

Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis appeared before U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning at 11:00 this morning, Bunning had her taken into custody finding her in contempt for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. Bunning told Davis that she would remain in jail until she complied with his order.

Davis said “thank you” and was taken from the courtroom by a U.S. Marshal. Davis was not taken out in handcuffs.

Judge Bunning then called Mrs. Davis’ six deputies into the courtroom, they were told they were free to issue licenses to all applicants while Davis was held in contempt, but if they did not comply they too would face fines or jail time.

Five of the six clerks said they would issue the licenses, the only one to hold out was Mrs. Davis’ son Nathan.

Judge Bunning was not done with Davis though, calling her back into court at 3:30 this afternoon, but Davis did not come. Instead she stayed in custody, her attorney appearing before the judge to tell him that she would not allow any employee to issue licenses in her absence.

Judge Bunning says he will keep Davis in jail for at least a week, and said “I hope that everyone will remain civil. This country has always had disagreements, but what makes this country different from other countries is that we respect the rule of law.”

The one semi positive thing it does do is enforce precedent to keep future Muslim clerks and officials from imposing Sharia.

It will do no such thing, when the time comes.

Not sure where a Federal Judge gets the authority to designate himself as acting-County Clerk in the Clerk's absence.

The people he's really screwing with here are the deputy clerks. The Clerk can't be fired because she's an elected official. But I'm sure she can fire her deputies for things like insubordination.

Heir Bunning, are those licenses legit without the County Clerk’s signature?

Nien.

THERE ISN’T ANY GAY MARRIAGE LAW.

At MOST, Kentucky statute was annulled. Now they have no law authorizing marriage.

It was disgusting in Ashland today. I had no idea Kentucky had that many fdrq’s. Makes one wonder if they are shipping them in.

“We respect the rule of law”?? Really?? The United States Supreme Court (five of them, at least) did not respect the rule of the Consitution’s law, i.e., the First and Tenth Amendments. The United States Supreme Court (five of them, at least) did not respect the rule of Kentucky’s law, which prohibits marriage between members of the same sex and which Clerk Davis was following.

The deputies cannot legally issue licenses without the clerk’s approval. Bunning is threatening the deputies with contempt for NOT breaking KY law.

This “judge” just damned themselves before the Almighty who is the REAL JUDGE. It matters not what this human judge believes or thinks. This stitch in time will be remembered forever by the “judge”.

Break her? With the love pouring out the way it is?

Methinks your cynicism knob is glued to max.

You don't go far wrong betting on the worst plausible outcome.

Well I hope she does not fire the other clerks - they are afraid of the Fed-Nazis and in a very tough situation.

“what makes this country different from other countries is that we respect the rule of law.”

Except for immigration laws.

I would’ve thought that by this time anyone would be allowed to break any kind of a law since very serious crimes are committed by the illegal invaders and nothing happens to them.

The POTUS does not respect the rule of law.

It is indeed one of those sear-the-soul moments.

He could yet repent, but whether that happens in the present context is unknown.
