This thing makes no sense unless the idea is to attract all sorts of enemy attack subs and store their signatures. That’s what the ASW ships are for (as well as to make sure no one tries anything foolish). Perhaps the Donskoi is being put to sea to shake out hidden problems and someone decided to take the opportunity to combine diplomatic, technical and intelligence missions all in one package. After the Donskoi returns it prepares for a cruise with the latest data on attack subs and is ready to take a three month hide.
Hope it does not engage her darn ‘Caterpillar Drive’ system........

What would be the radiation effects of sinking one in the eastern Med? We must have some idea as two of our nuclear subs and several of theirs have sunk over the years. It certainly would be less than what now exists around Novaya Zemlya where multiple reactors, with or without subs, have been dumped. Clearly the ocean as a whole can handle more of this; even the greenies don’t complain about it. But could there be significant local effects if one went down at the wrong location? For example, could such mess up Israel’s desalinated water supply?
Makes a person wonder what Israel thinks about it. In case the situation between Israel and Iran further deteriorates whose side will the Russians be on? Just wondering...
