The first in a series of hearings about Planned Parenthood kicked off Wednesday in Capitol Hill, with Republicans and Democrats running in circles over whether or not the organization did anything wrong, failing to reach any common ground.
No reliable evidence demonstrates that Planned Parenthood violated the law, said John Conyers, D-Mich., ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, which called todays hearing.
Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., said the committee is investigating not only whether or not Planned Parenthood broke any existing laws, but also whether there are gaps in current laws that need to be filled.
There are questions regarding whether there are gaps in the law that should be filled to prevent the types of horrors described in the videos. There are questions regarding whether or not existing federal laws have been violated, Goodlatte said. The Committee is aggressively seeking answers to these questions, but there is no question that the videos are deeply disturbing on a human level.
The hearing, titled Planned Parenthood Exposed: Examining the Horrific Abortion Practices at the Nations Largest Abortion Provider, was sparked after a string of undercover videos, filmed by a group called the Center for Medical Progress, raised questions about Planned Parenthoods abortion process and the organizations sale of fetal body parts. The organization has denied any wrongdoing and funded a report that concluded that the videos were manipulated.
Witnesses included National Right to Life General Counsel Mr. James Copp Jr.; two abortion survivors, Ms. Melissa Ohden and Ms. Gianna Jessen; and Ms. Priscilla J. Smith, director and senior fellow at the program for the study of reproductive justice at Yale Law School.

If they never did anything wrong, what do they do that merits federal funding? They shouldn’t get a thin dime in any case.
I suppose their claim to have done nothing wrong is rooted in the fact that, when they decapitated the babies to sell their heads, the babies were already dead having been killed moments before.
And in the US, thats legal.
And the most we can do about it is argue about how much we are going to pay them for doing what they do. These men, educated in the law, can’t figure out if these butchers have done anything wrong.
Judgement is coming. I don’t want to be on the same boat with these people.
10. Every pol with a D by there name went into the hearing having already decided PP would be fully funded.
11. Every pol with an R by there name went into the hearing to grandstand for their voters.
I heard a handful of Republicans grandstand for the unborn, who may or may not turn out to be Republicans.
Nothing will come of all this stuhrm und drang unless Senator Ted Cruz makes it happen.
All the Democrats grandstand for PP and will vote to fund it.
All the Republicans will make noise against PP and will end up voting to fund PP and make excuses.
Sure John, you stay with that line when you are standing tall before the Creator.
Republicans and Democrats running in circles over whether or not the organization did anything wrong..
ATOMIC DUH!... EMP DUH!... and a hearty Orchestrational DUH!.
(with flourishes)
The Democrat party, because one else will defend the indefensible or say shameful things shamelessly. When it comes to killing babies and selling their bodies as spare parts, always look for the Democrat label - where calling evil good and good evil is not just a slogan, but a way of life.
I’ve watched many congressional hearings on CSPAN, the best thing that can be said about them is they are a complete farce (that’s the best thing the worst descends to depths unknown) and nothing good comes from them, there maybe exceptions but I can’t think of any at the moment.
Nothing more than smoking mirrors magic and a circus dog and pony show, even as entertainment it has all become wearisome, old and tired.
Department of Education, PBS, National Endowment for the Arts. So many things need cut we can't figure out where to start, so best to do nothing, just like always.
