Showing that the schism between conservatives and libertarians was not a natural one was a preoccupation of the late M. Stanton Evans, with good reasons.

Libertarianism is about as similar to conservatism as satanism is to Christianity.

Conservatism will take different forms--obviously--in different cultures. It is, after all, about preserving heritage, the cumulative achievements of a people. Thus in the American context, Libertarianism & Conservatism are almost so close as to represent "distinctions without a difference." That does not mean that there are not faux libertarians & faux conservatives, who being really neither, may not find little to agree upon.

Evans was one of the most respected Conservative journalists of his time, and understood whereof he wrote..

Silly. Once can be both libertarian and conservative. All it takes is the recognition that everything you disapprove of does not have to be illegal. That people can be free to be bad people.

False. Just. False.

Conservatives embrace social and moral values and traits that libs deny and denounce.

You cannot be a libertarian and a conservative.

Libertarianism would work if everyone was born 30 years old with a developed adult brain. So it can’t work.

Read what I said. Nothing stops a libertarian from embracing the same moral values.

One can be both libertarian and conservative.

Well, sure. Someone once asked martial artist Bruce Lee what his fighting style was (karate, kung-fu, or what?). Lee replied along the lines of, "I take the best from each style."

I'm thinking the same applies to politics.

Sure, nothing stops a libertarian dope dealer from embracing conservative moral values. He won't though.

When I cut and pasted a direct quote from you, do you not think I read what you said?

There’s always one. In every thread about liberals, there’s always one who takes those Regan remarks out of context.

Read the entire article. Reagan was no libertarian. And he did not endorse libertarianism.

Think there are more intelligent approaches than “People are free to be evil.

A true conservative realizes that people should not be free to do evil however, there are evils which are at different times and circumstances are allowed , but which will be as regulated as need be to reduce the social harm they cause.

Your phrase allows people to do drugs do “gay marriage” etc. Because freedom without hardly any rules is Libertarianism’s true ideal.

Bruce Lee also cautioned against thinking knowing martial arts is the be all end all of self defense. Some years ago I saw a documentary of Lee. One time after conducting some lessons with some pupils he told them in the end if someone has a gun, the gun will win over the best martial artist.

Applying “original intent” constitutionalism to national political issues produces a result that looks very much like libertarianism. The federal government was supposed to be the “government of the states”. It was never intended to concern itself with the day-to-day affairs of individual citizens.

Here's the entire paragraph :

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals–if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is."

Pretty hard to take that out of context.

Not true. Even the Greek Masters knew that without Virtue, Freedom is impossible.

All the Founders knew that without Virtue, our Republic would collapse.

That is what the Cultural Marxists targeted in curricula with our public schools—to literally destroy Virtue formation in children by removing Classical Education and putting in neo-marxist/Freudian literature.

Destroy Virtue in children (which needs to be instilled and habituated) and you will collapse civil society. MSM promoting and glorifying vice 24/7, and using Laws in the 60s to ban our Christian culture from the public square, so that our Traditions and and heritage could not be transmitted to the next generation, sealed our need for “Outer Control “ (prisons/JD centers/abortion centers-—etc—a massive expensive system to stem vice which enslaves the producers/good who have no time or “mother” to instill virtue in their own children.

Without inner control of base instincts, you have to have government step in——it has been so since the beginning of man-—total chaos than totalitarianism.

Freedom can never consist of a Vice System of “Justice”-—Just Laws have to promote ONLY “public virtue” and NEVER vice-—to remain a “Just Law”. That is the basis of our “Justice System”-—”When Just Law ceases to be Just (virtuous), it ceases to be Law”. It has been understood since before Cicero to be such.

When you promote Vice in “law” (which can never be “Just”), you get more vice-—until it collapses civil society. Unjust Law is “null and void”—and is the Duty of all people to disobey evil laws-—and judges to declare “null and void”. Nuremberg Trials reiterated this Truth.

Didn't ask you to read the entire paragraph. Just the article. Hell, you don't even have to read the entire article. Just his conclusion. And when you do you will see what I said...

"Reagan was no libertarian. And he did not endorse libertarianism."
