No, Glenn Beck is Lonesome Rhodes. And Cal Thomas is WAY past his prime. I think they are stringing his toupees a bit too tight these days.
No, Trump is just Trump. I have not seen anything like him in my six decades, nor any character like him in any book I have read, or movie I have seen. But keep trying GOPe, we love watching you squirm.
I was wondering the same thing. I saw the “Lonesome Rhodes” reference here last week. Was it Nathan Bedford Forrest who came up with it?
No sale, Cal.
John Doe was a nonentity nobody; Trump is a somebody and nobody is pulling his strings nor writing his speeches. And no puppet master is making money off him.
Trump is not a nobody thrust into the spotlight for which he was ill prepared.
I fail to see the comparison.
Old Cal is reaching.
Besides being a great film, it has Rhodes pitching a useless product which he pretends is an uncanny precursor to Viagra.
That is the lamest freakin analogy I have seen in a long time. Suave, urbane, no-nonsense3 Trump = the dumbass hayseedling who channels Will Rogers, poorly? On what planet?
Have you seen the movie?
Doe wasn’t a nobody, he was a veteran, and a former baseball player, who had fallen on bad times.
However I wasn’t even referring of a comparison between the two characters, but rather to the theme of the overall film.
Even though the reporter “created” the John Doe persona, the idea took off on it’s own and developed a life no longer beholden to it’s creator.
In the end Doe ends up destroying the establishment that created him, but not before it tried to devour him.
Don’t be so quick to judge.
Lonesome Rhodes was discovered in a county jail, IIRC.
Donald Trump is not, I think, a very good man, or a thoughtful Christian. But he’s not a monster on the order of Bill Clinton or Obama, or any of the Bushes (Which covers the Presidency since 1988.) who have ALL worked together to turn the U.S. over to the Muslims. And he’s not a ne’er-do-well like Lonesome Rhodes.
I would like to hear Trump talking about the DEEPER corruption in Washington: How Arab oil money has bought EVERYBODY, on both sides of the aisle. How Communism DIDN’T die with the Soviet Union.
In before the Elmer Gantry comparison.
Apparently it made his mustache fall off.
At the end, he does talk about suicide/decides to commit suicide ( which he hadn't ever done, but was Stanwyck's original, hackneed idea that starts the whole thing )instead of continue to be used by the MSM and a pol who wants to start a third party.
The analogy doesn't fit at all !
Andy Griffith is an ultra leftist democrat...
Play Lonesome Rhodes as one..
Much like Donald Trump..
“someone sick of the world as it is ( Depression era )and the whole thing does take off, but ONLY with the help of the MSM”
And you see no analogy in that statement alone.
Wow, we must be watching 2 different campaigns.
You know not every comment that doesn’t worship Trump is a slam against him either.
By the way, if you notice my original posting I said it was a closer comparison than the Griffith movie, nowhere did I say it was exact.
Seems like you Trump folks get bent about stuff real quick. Always on the attack for any perceived slight.
“Oh no, say it ain’t so. Cal has joined the GOPe. I used to love his work.”
Cal Thomas has been a card carrying GOPe flunkie for years. He gets away with it because people tend to see him as a Christian and therefore a social conservative. But he’s always been in the neocon/GOPe camp.
Cal was faking.
It shouldn’t have been a stretch for Andy Griffith to play Lonesome Rhodes. Apparently he was a lot closer to that in real life than to Andy of Mayberry.
You Rang?
Sometimes I wonder if a hosepipe and a crack pipe are the same thing.
