CRY US A CONTAMINATED RIVER: EPA Chief Takes a Beating at Senate Hearings
ColoradoPeakPolitics ^ | September 16, 2015

It was a dirty river before, it’s a dirtier river now, we’re moving on.

That sums up the attitude of EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy who testified before two Senate committees today.

Democratic lawmakers made excuses for the agency while Republicans hammered at McCarthy to take responsibility for the rusty contaminated sludge her agency unleashed on the Animas River and across three states.

...

Has anyone been fired for …?

...

Colorado’s Sen. Cory Gardner attended both hearings, and drilled McCarthy on the agency’s appalling lack of telephone etiquette – downstream users weren’t notified until days after the incident. When Gardner met with EPA officials four days after the spill, he said the feds still couldn’t answer basic questions including how much water continued to seep into the river.

...

McCarthy skipped out early from the Indian Affairs hearing and missed the testimony of Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye, who reported that the EPA had actually “abandoned” Indian Country, cutting off the transport of fresh water for crops and feed for cattle.

As for the federal government’s outrageous tardiness in informing downstream users about the contamination flowing their way, Begaye knocked it out of the park with this statement: “The only reason they finally informed the Navajo Nation, is you can’t hide an accident when the river turns orange.”

Tune in tomorrow, when McCarthy faces a brutal joint hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and Natural Resources Committee.

I am surprised the EPA has not found a way to blame the mining company yet.

Whose idea was it to DIG INTO THE SIDE OF A CONTAINMENT RESERVOIR???

They could have poisoned every Indian and residents of three states and no one in the EPA would be fired.

If the mining company did this, they would all be in jail. But not the EPA officials. Congress needs to call for investigation and prosecution for environmental crimes.

Otherwise, more proof that the Rule of Law is dead.

I want the EPA held to the same impossible standards and penalties they impose on the rest of us.

I am convinced this was a deliberate act by the EPA.

They have been trying for years, apparently, to get the site designated as a superfund site.

A week before the EPA went in, a geologist with a lot of experience wrote a letter to the editor in the regional newspaper and outlined pretty closely exactly what was going to happen, and it did.

Does anyone think that if it were one of Donald Trump’s companies that did this that Trump wouldn’t be crucified by the media, if not locked-up?

The EPA was trying to force its way into the area as a superfund cleanup area. The locals wanted nothing to do with the Environmental pollution agency. A geologist seeing workmen dig wrote an article in a local newspaper saying he expected a disaster in 7 to 120 days. It happened 7 days later. It looks like EPA is a rouge agency out of control and did it on purpose.

Gold King Mine owner Todd Hennis is calling the testimony of EPA Assistant Administrator Mathy Stanislaus at a House Science Committee hearing “absolute baloney of the worst kind.”

the EPA blocked off the flow of water out of the drain pipes and they created the huge wall of water in the Gold King by their actions last year.

EPA is trying to spin this away from the fact their backfilling operation caused the blowout.

Dave Taylor, the retired geologist who predicted the EPA project that caused the spill would fail, has little patience for the lame excuses being offered by EPA officials and their Democrat apologists.

the EPA poured gas on the fire, by showing up unequipped and unprepared with no back-up plan

In China, this woman and several others would have been shot.

Call for her resignation, and the dept. chiefs, etc, all the way down the line to the one who ordered the breach. Then prosecute the lot of them.

Maybe we could outsource the punishment of government corruption to China. Our government leaders want to send every other job there.

EPA Fails to Acknowledge It Coerced Mine Owner to Grant Access ... When you’re a small guy and you’re having a $35,000-a-day fine accrue against you, you have to run up the white flag - Todd Hennis, owner of the Gold King mine .
