The United Nations has a radical, dangerous vision for the future of the Web
WaPo ^ | Sept 24 2015 | Caitlin Dewey

It may not have intended to, precisely, but the United Nations just took sides in the Internet’s most brutal culture war.

On Thursday, the organization’s Broadband Commission for Digital Development released a damning “world-wide wake-up call” on what it calls “cyber VAWG,” or violence against women and girls. The report concludes that online harassment is “a problem of pandemic proportion” — which, nbd, we’ve all heard before.

But the United Nations then goes on to propose radical, proactive policy changes for both governments and social networks, effectively projecting a whole new vision for how the Internet could work.

Under U.S. law — the law that, not coincidentally, governs most of the world’s largest online platforms — intermediaries such as Twitter and Facebook generally can’t be held responsible for what people do on them. But the United Nations proposes both that social networks proactively police every profile and post, and that government agencies only “license” those who agree to do so.

.......

At one point toward the end of the paper, the U.N. panel concludes that “political and governmental bodies need to use their licensing prerogative” to better protect human and women’s rights, only granting licenses to “those Telecoms and search engines” that “supervise content and its dissemination.”

In other words, the United Nations believes that online platforms should be (a) generally responsible for the actions of their users and (b) specifically responsible for making sure those people aren’t harassers.

Regardless of whether you think those are worthwhile ends, the implications are huge: It’s an attempt to transform the Web from a libertarian free-for-all to some kind of enforced social commons.

The U.N. is going to enjoy it when 'Anonymous' (or whoever those hackers in the shadows are) takes down the U.N. websites and fills them with defiant symbols, screams and shrieks.

As for 'policing' and 'licensing', I have two words for those sh!theads at the U.N. and that's PROXY SERVERS.

Yeah. That's easier than issuing a wake-up call about ACTUAL violence against women and girls, isn't it, The U.N.?

Bunch of creeps.

A bunch of third world sewer creeps trying to control the world. The internet is none of their business. It’s up to countries to police their own.

"Any excuse will suit a tyrant."
Aesop

And the world is full of tyrants--always has been, always will be.

The tyrants of the world have no intention of allowing the freedom and chaos of the internet to continue to escape their control.

If they can control the internet, they can control the world.

BE AFRAID!

BE VERY AFRAID!

Tyrants have a new and powerful instrument to bring the world under their submission.

their licensing prerogative

Even the Washington Post, which of course will get a 1st Amendment license from the government, realizes this is a bad idea. At least for now.

It wasn't very long ago that The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), tried to assert controls over all worldwide news media. This was best described in an editorial cartoon, which showed three old style typewriters. The first was just a typewriter, labeled "American press". The second was a typewriter wrapped in chains and locks, labeled "Soviet press". And the third was a typewriter smashed to pieces, labeled "UNESCO press". The UN is a dreadful place, run by dreadful people. They do not, nor ever have, embraced the ideas of freedom or liberty, democracy or civil rights. They desire to rule the world as a bureaucratic dictatorship, devoid of private property, free speech, freedom of religion, privacy, creativity, and with our lives and our posterity itself in the balance, as toys for them to play with. And yet the UN has backers. Evil men all. They lust for world domination, under them, of course. They want the authority to tax, the ability to whimsically dictate laws and regulations, like the most vile of princes, and they are willing to sacrifice billions of lives so that all but their new nobility are reduced to peasantry. Islam and Sharia law are brutal and evil systems under which to live. UN law actually makes them look good in comparison, for it is just cruel madness run by megalomaniacs as ruthless as Ceaușescu, as cruel as Mao or Stalin, and as fanatical in their ends as was Hitler.

But they, like their elitist sisters in the US, ignore the atrocities to females by moslims and by others, like the illegals crossing our Southern border (i.e., ‘rape trees’), for example.

All this talk about ‘protecting’ women and girls both in the USA and by the UN is just a ruse; a distraction so the real threats to females can take root. And once that happens, it’ll be too late.

For all those very educated idiotic women who think Hillary and Huma and Sam Powers, et.al., are on their side, you better wake up and wake up soon, because the ice is melting right underneath your feet.

“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites...We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means, it is an end... The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now do you begin to understand me?”

Speech control. Everyone needs to be holed up in apartments in huge cities. And what you say there will be monitored.
