Republican Rep. Charlie Dent Calls For "Bipartisan Coalition" To Select New Speaker
Real Clear Politics ^ | October, 8, 2015 | Staff

REP. CHARLIE DENT: The next Speaker should not appease those who make unreasonable demands. There are a number of members of our conference. You cannot get the yes on anything. For them the end will be the good.

In my view it's come time to marginalize those members who doesn't want to be part of the governing majority.

I've said for some time that in order to pass anything out of the House we need to assemble a bipartisan coalition whether it's on the continuing resolution, the debt ceiling, we will have to assemble a bipartisan coalition. That's the reality of this place and I don't think that any of our leaders should make accommodations to those who are going to make unreasonable demands...

I don't know what will happen. Anything is possible now. It's pretty clear to me that a number of us are not going to simply appease or exceed to those who will make unreasonable demands. And so I suspect in order to govern around here we need a bipartisan coalition on all major bills.

If we can't get 218 Republican votes for a Speaker, then we'll have to try other options. I don't know what those options are, but I certainly don't want to put somebody in the Speaker's job who is going to appease those who are making unreasonable demands.

Wow, just give the dems some chairmanship while you are at it.

Anyone else remember the debacle of ‘shared power’ when we actually held the majority?

What would be different if the Dems were in control?

Actually the Democrats are always in control. No better evidence than this to demonstrate it. The Elite Republicans did not get their guy, they will be damned before they see a Conservative get it. Still think that there are two Parties?

I guess we are learning there are only 35 conservatives in the Republican Congress?

Its the voice of a GOPe hack who has been bought and paid for by K-Street. To talk about marginalizing a part of his coalition, (representatives doing what their constituents want), is a disgrace.

Pete King is another RINO big mouth. Listening to him bellow all day on local TV to “get rid of the extremists” in the party.

This all goes to show how imbedded the donor class lobbyists have become in the national GOP.

They feel it slipping away from them.

Charlie Dent apparently has an overwhelming desire to drop trou, bend over, and invite all congressional democrats to skip the Vaseline.

It takes about 124 votes to get a majority in the GOP House caucus. No one in their right mind ever thought there were that many actual conservatives.

Even the less than 50 outspoken conservatives aren’t all that committed when it comes to actually voting. There may be only two dozen principled conservatives in the House, with another two or three dozen who might take a stand with enough pressure.

When it comes to the MSM I believe NOTHING the first time I hear it.

On local radio they announced that McCarthy withdrew and almost in the same breath said Boner ‘agreed’ to stay on till one was selected.

My ‘conspiracy theory, suspicious mind’ says that was the plan all along.

Boner announces he is resigning (while wiping away a tear), his ‘hand picked’ successor says something utterly STUPID and even if he meant it, it shouldn’t be repeated.

Like a ‘White Pol’ going to a ‘black lives matter’ rally and continually use the word ‘niggardly’ rather than say ‘cheap SOB’.

Good word, correct word, VERY DUMB usage of same.

Anyway, ‘hand picked successor’ drops out, SHTF and boner graciously offers to stick around for the healing process.

A DOG AND PONY SHOW THE LIKES OF TIJUANA or OLONGAPO HAVE NEVER SEEN.
