I do worry that too many of Europe's armories have been cleared of useful "mothballed" military firearms (older designs, but still serviceable). Many of Austria's StG-58 rifles (metric FN-FAL variant) were sold as parts kits (with chopped receivers) here in the U.S. fifteen years ago. I know, I brought a few back to life.

Ah, well... I probably worry too much. Germany re-armed on the sly once before - and pretty quickly, too.

Amazingly, today - it’s Monday already - I’m giving my pupils a tutoring on Charles Martel.

I was going to do a different subject today, but then I decided, how many know of this great European, so I thought it’s about time I introduced them to him.

I can’t answer your question as I’ve got no information regarding it. All I can say that is that probably 40% of Europe is armed ie. people, citizens and that’s good enough for me.

I think we all genuinally hope that it won’t come to this, we the European people never asked for this crisis to be dumped on our shores and in our lands.

A conservative estimate already, there are at least 20 million guns in Europe, the number is rising.

Good to hear, Lucy. I enjoy your postings from across the pond.

Europe needs many more in civilian hands and they should NOT be registered. We folks in the US probably have around 300 million firearms and a Constitution that guarantees such.

Too sad that the UK is so anti-gun and has such a large segment of their population in England that are radical Muslims raping and killing.

I agree. They had two major wars sweep the continent in thirty years...plenty of opportunity to pick up a dropped Mauser or Garand and hide it in the barn. And since they were expecting another Great Soviet Invasion for forty years after, plenty of time and motivation to scrounge up more arms and keep them hidden.

I’ve seen pictures of “battlefield pickups” in private hands in France and Belgium that would being a small fortune if they came to the States.

For a small country Austria has some famous gun makers; Glock and Steyr. Are ther surplus Mannlicher straight pull bolts still available?

This IS going to get interesting; the Italians are not the type to put up with BS and I am sure that we’re going to hear stories of shootouts.

20 million?! That's it? Ha ha ha! Pikers! I mean, there's probably half that many in Chicago alone :-)

Well, it was funny, and probably true.
