I see them all the time sashaying down the right-hand side of a busy road, continually looking over their left shoulders, rather than just using the left-hand side where they can see what's coming at them. One morning at 5AM I was about to get in my car to go to work and I had the police interrogate me for five minutes. Seems a thief had been in the area so they were checking me out. Of course they demanded ID.

CORINTH, Texas — A University of North Texas professor is speaking out after being stopped by two officers for what she is calling, “walking while black.” The whole stop was caught on camera by the officer’s dashcam. Oh, well, the recognition of an idiot comes at the 0:02 mark in the video (walking down the street with her back to traffic, oblivious to the vehicle behind her.) The arm flapping just enhances the scene - the police probably had reason to wonder if she was high or drunk.

We had a 95 year old woman get killed in the region recently, not facing traffic: She was on her riding mower on or along the 2-lane state highway in front of her property, with, evidently, good visibility in each direction. A drunk in a pickup truck struck her from behind. The driver "was taken into custody before ***** died and charged with murder, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs 2nd offense aggravating circumstance, driving on DUI suspended 3rd aggravating circumstances, possession of marijuana, tampering with physical evidence. He was also served with an outstanding warrant out of ****** County for failure to appear."

Obviously, they ought to just "throw away the key" for the drunkard, BUT, that is exactly why one never walks / mows / etc. with traffic on the street or on the shoulder. Heck, when I was in college I rode a bicycle a lot, and the half mile stretch along a 2 lane highway with no separate bike path (or even a bike lane) that I had to traverse 2 or 4 times a day scared the **bleep** out of me -- I wore high vis clothing and pedaled like my life depended on it, and perhaps it did...

For the same reason that when one of them is stopped for a minor infraction like a burned out tail light, before it’s over, you’ll find that the car tabs are expired (but naturally it isn’t his car, it’s a friend’s), he’s not wearing his seat belt, there’s no proof of insurance, his license is suspended, he has a bag of weed in plain sight on the console, a piece in his pocket and believe it or not, he’s got felonies.

But doggone it, the Man’s always hassling him.
