Hanging up awards on a wall is something most active and involved people do; I see no problem with that. The portraits? Hm.

Every man’s house is a homage to himself, one way or the other.

Hanging his awards is little different from an academic lining his home with impressive quantities of books or a great cook cramming her kitchen with displays of cookware. I believe part of him is still struggling to believe his good fortune. I think the same of Trump in many ways.

1:30 into this video Carson says humility is “a big part of who I am.” Really?

Being humble is before God, acknowledging His gifts, not being ashamed before mankind. The Bible tells us not to "hide our light under a bushel [basket]". While boasting is not favored, there is nothing wrong with a man being able to review many of the blessings he has received within his own home.

The photos and awards appear to be mounted on walls in a pool room, correct?

Given that Dr. Carson is much more famous and much more accomplished than my late husband, DrO, it’s obvious that he has acquired many thousands more awards, certificates and photos with the famous worthy of display.

I mean, what would you or anyone else have him or his wife otherwise do with those items?

He’s retired from his medical practice!

My very humble and shy DrO had all his stored in several closets and down in a basement, all in their original, glass-sealed, and fancy frames which I dusted off, unwrapped and displayed! There’s no telling that Mrs. Carson hasn’t done the same.

I don't give a damn about his displaying his "stuff"; my reply was to NOBODY being as "accomplished" as he. The decor is tacky, not well done, in the style of an unprintable old term, here on FR. Neither am I "impressed" by Melania's ideas re decor; so stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

It is a common theme amongst Christian physicians that God does the healing and the man is just the tool He uses. The picture is not dissimilar from other Jesus/physician pictures, and it is meant as a humbling reminder that the physician is NOT God

Doctors are often given elaborate (by the giver's standard) gifts, and that amateurish portrait of him copied from one of his early book covers and the one of him and Jesus could have been done by a family member, a grateful patient or close friend. He certainly has the money to have commissioned a proper portrait, had he wanted one.

My mom used to hang every assignment I completed from high school art class, no matter how some of them made me cringe later on. But her point was to show appreciation for me, not necessarily the art.
