If you look at Valencia’s emblem, they have the Catalan Flag in the background. Traditionally, Valencia was part of Catalonia during the Middle Ages. They don’t consider themselves “Spanish” though.
Guess we’ll see what happens.
My father predicted this exact thing would start happening when the farce that was the EU fell apart - that it would fall harder than it rose and break up modern European ‘nations’ that are in fact a regional version of the American red/blue-area system where the other places pay for the vote-rich cities that vote hard left almost permanently.
It took me quite a while to realize just why this was until I finally grasped that a number of regions in many European ‘nations’ have almost ZIP in common with each other. The ‘melting pot’ that the USA used to create national unity simply does not exist, or at least not to the same extent. And when the economic crisis gets bad enough, this coupled with their significantly less powerful military forces is going to lead to secessionist movements.
