Investigators believe San Bernardino shooter Syed Rizwan Farook may have been plotting an earlier attack in California with someone else, two U.S. officials said.
One of the officials said the two conspired in 2012 and a specific target was considered. Neither of the officials could say how serious the plotting got.
One official said the two decided not to go through with the earlier attack after a round of terror-related arrests in the area.
"They got spooked," the official said.
The purported plot bolsters assertions law enforcement officials have made since the San Bernardino attacks, saying Farook had been radicalized for a time before the shooting.

To the extreme left, who are essentially in charge of the current left, it’s not about Muslim immigrants. It’s about all immigrants who are likely to shift the demographics of the USA and ‘transform’ America into something entirely different than the America they (the extreme left) hate. They are using our goodwill and our open society to destroy those aspects of America that they despise. It’s extremely disturbing.
Tonight I saw an African American man collecting for the Salvation Army. He was outside a store in a very predominantly white area not far from where I live. In addition to those giving money, others went and bought him coffee. This is a small thing, but to me it signifies how most Americans have moved beyond race, and have good hearts. It’s sad and ironic that there is so much anti-American hatred out there from within our own borders.
The two perpetrators in the crime, Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, were killed by police in the hours after the shooting.

ABC News reports that he was long-term employee of the San Bernardino Department of Health. He formerly worked in Cape May County, New Jersey, as a health inspector. The station says that Thalasinos' wife, Jennifer, works as a teacher in southern California. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two adult sons.

The day before his death he posted on Facebook that he had received a threat telling him that he would "die and never see Israel." One of the many tributes to Thalasinos that have been posted on his page read "It is my honest belief that Nicholas was murdered because of his alliance with Israel and Jewish people."
