The media has been writing stories on Christian Dominion-ism for decades. Where’ve you been?

Wasn't aware of Cruz's ties to it until another Freeper pointed it out.

It's plain creepy.

Trump is in the same spot as Gingrich 4 years ago. How’s President Gingrich doing?

Government in control of the 'Seven Mountains'.

GTFO with that garbage.

Newt never grabbed and held the lead like Trump has. I should know I was supporting him.

Frankly I think Cruz may win Iowa. Or Carson. Trump is going to run the rest of the table so it will be a moot point.

“And Republican voters are ultimately going to nominate a legitimate, conservative Republican”

McCain. Romney.

I like Cruz and support him and Trump. My husband does not like Cruz at all, but does like Trump.

I just don’t think that Cruz has the ability to win the hearts and minds of a large enough number of voters to succeed. Trump inspires people. People who are willing to go out of their way to hear him speak.

It’s a long time until the election, but if events continue as they have, Trump will be the next president of our country. I hope that he brings Cruz along with him.

Agreed, and I was also a Newt supporter.

If Cruz is the nominee they will Palinize him. Trump is Palin-proof.
Shame. I like Cruz so much more, but I don’t think he can beat Hillary.

Ted Cruz brought this on himself—he is not well liked in the Senate—many plam him for the Gov. Shutdown that hurt the GOP. A smart many but maybe not smart enough to be president. He would be a divider like Obama. Trump is right.

I think this is very true. Cruz can be quickly written off as a guy who will try and shut down the government every time he doesn't get his way. It's unfair, but it can stick.

The GOP voters are sick and tired of exactly that. Cruz is a solid guy and I'd vote for him in the general election, but a minority of voters will be joining me, I'm afraid.

So you think Ted Cruz would win the hypothetical “Which candidate do you want to have a beer with?” competition.

Uh oh. The Washington Post is condoning this?

That means the Elitist Party (D and R) have agreed to take Trump down with Cruz.

Newt would likely have won Fl if Mitt had not carpet bombed him with $20 million in negative ads. Too bad he didn’t attack Obama as hard as he hit Newt or Mitt would be in the Whitehouse now.

The orthodoxy here has been that the Republicans should have engaged in more shutdowns and LONGER shutdowns. Sen. Cruz was the conservative HERO of the shutdowns. The Republicans DID take a temporary hit but in the long run far ahead in both off-year elections and held their own in 2012. How fickle you are.

Don’t agree.

Did you see Laz’s post 85 here? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3372298/posts?page=85#85

It’s well worth clicking through and reading his post “Elitist vs. Populist”.

Really explains a lot and matches what is going on. I’ve been framing whats happening with Trump as people sick of elitists for a while now but never put it all together like Laz did.

Cruz, as much as I like him, is still connected to big donor money and PACs that are getting him into trouble. It’s sad to see. People say Cruz is the thoroughbred conservative, well, Trump is the thoroughbred outsider - on the new battlefield. That is why he’s on top of the polls.

Mitt was a loser. Unfortunately, Newt didn’t have charisma. He lacked one of the most important qualities of a candidate: he couldn’t inspire enough people to love him.

Trump decided to forgo the middle man and jump in the race himself. That way he can jump into the gravy train without depending on someone else. It will be great for his businesses and his kids.
