How To Stop Donald Trump? A Lesson From Louisiana
Boston Globe ^ | December 19, 2015 | Joanna Weiss

Posted on 12/19/2015 4:40:42 AM PST by Jim Noble

So much for the establishment's efforts to stop Donald Trump. So far, nothing's working - not a thousand earnest think pieces or Jeb Bush's gripes in the latest debate. Not the wrath of news anchors and late-night hosts, who still can't resist booking Trump on their shows, but have started to get ornery during the interviews.

So maybe it's worth looking back to 1991 Louisiana, when establishment Republicans and Democrats banded together to defeat a popular, populist, problematic gubernatorial candidate named David Duke...

I spoke this week to some veterans of the anti-Duke battle, who told me they've been talking up this very idea, while noting that the parallels aren't exact. As hard as it is to divine Donald Trump's motivations - as much as his Bulworth act can sound like bigotry, and possibly is ...

Would a little more digging into Trump's past, plus a loud dose of Louisiana-style dark humor, accomplish what all of the hand-wringing hasn't?

I have no doubt - none whatsoever - that Team Bush and Team Clinton will work together, possibly even with Jeb as Hillary's VP, to try to pull something like this off.

I despise the GOPe, have seen too much of their antics and will never recover from that.

I never thought I would support a NYer for POTUS. I don’t like Trump’s arrogant NY rudeness. That is a pretty minor failure in relation to the mess we have now.

BUT, here we are and he may actually be the poison pill needed to crush the ComDem Destruction of the nation.

David Duke=Trump?

These people are whistling Dixie if they see the comparison.

Trump is the people’s candidate. He’s been a vocal critic of both rep and dem presidents. No one has any dirt on him. YOu will not find a Bill Cosby past.

He doesn’t drink or smoke and as much as he’s been recorded over the years, I haven’t heard him tell an off color joke, unless it was during a roast. IN fact, the Hollywood Blacks love him esp the comics who have roasted him.

He’s a patriot. David Dukes is not a patriot.

OVer 40% are not for him, plans like this one will take him over the top.

If Jeb Bush plays the sore loser card he does it out of stupidity as I am sure Trump would welcome him into the next admin.

How low is the GOPe wing of the Republicrat Uniparty going to go to defeat Trump? Well, if you’re going to stoop to the level of making comparisons of Donald Trump to a POS like David Duke then there’s your answer.

If I remember correctly, the democrat who beat David Duke was a convicted felon. Hillary is the right choice under the Duke analogy.

This author is an idiot.

Doesn't she think that all Trump's opponents including the RNC and GOPe have sifted and scoured Trump's past like archaeologists at the Giza pyramids.

This is what passes as journalism nowadays.

Long live the interweb and FR.

I despise Trump, think he’s near the top two or three worst candidates running this cycle...I think,if he wins, he will be a poison pill to conservatism and we will rue the day he is elected.

BUT, this is probably the only scenario in which I would vote for the schmuck because I despise the GOPe even more.

How to Stop Donald Trump?

Produce a candidate that gets more votes.

If you can't do that, shut up.

I am not a Donald Trump fan, but the comparison to David Duke is jumping the shark. But then, to the left, anyone who is not in agreement with them is a bigot, racist, homophobe, sexist, etc.

Part of Trumps popularity is driven by the fact that so many of the “wannabes”, political adversaries, media whores and the like are doing what ever they can think of, trying to bring him down. The more they push and promote against Trump, the stronger Trump gets as We, The People dig in deeper and pile on the support.

The nation has been taken over by those who would destroy us and We, The People have had enough. Its time to “Make American Great Again” and it looks like at this time in our history, we NEED someone like Trump. He may not be the “ideal” candidate but he projects hope and promise to save this nation from total tyranny.

You don’t have to dig very deep...

Trumps support of Kelo, Single payer health care, Ethanol subsidies, Planned Parenthood, confiscatory taxes on the rich, opposition of Medicare/Social Security reform and multiple donations to Democrat campaigns/causes over the years is documented.

Trump was praising Romney for his gentle approach to illegal immigrants and badmouthing Republicans for being “mean spirited” in their approach to illegal immigrants a scant 3 years ago.

This mans past belies a candidate a good deal different than what people are willing to believe of him today
