I agree with you regarding 2017. The incredible sum of money received, the federal shutdown effect on NoVA, and GoPe desertion was just too much for the ticket to overcome in 2013.

Sorry to hear Hurt is leaving.

I think the crap storm brought on by our halfrican president may have just worn him out.
I have been regularly emailing and calling his office.
Went to one of his branch offices to politely but sternly voice my opinion on the lack of congressional spine regarding Obama’s immigration actions.
There were quite a few people doing the same thing. The lady I spoke to said that every time Obama opened his mouth the office was swamped with calls, snail mail, email and personal visits.

She didn’t come out and say it, but I got the impression that the ugly reality of politics in the Obama era was sucking the happiness out of the man.
Hard to get enjoyment from your job when all you hear is people bitching.

I hope he finds enjoyment and satisfaction in whatever he does next.

Yeah. Thank you for the sad news. Hurt turned out just fine so far as I know. I hope he writes a book.

Never took the local effort you did to be honest, but I suspect that Hurt is disgusted by Paul Ryan.

Vidkun Ryan was probably the straw that broke the camels back.
I can’t imagine dealing with a drama queen, Obama, and a drunk, Boehner, every day.
Then when you finally get rid of the drunk you keep Boehner 2.0 out (McCarthy) only to get Boehner 2.1, Paul “Vidkun Quisling” Ryan.

All that thrown on top of the usual slimy aspects of politics.
No wonder the good ones have burnt out.

It is now official.
In his newsletter dated today, 12/23, Rep. Hurt announced he will not run for re-election at the end of this term.
He doesn’t give a reason other than a general “never intending to make a career in politics”.

I have a feeling you are right and Ryan was more than he could take.

I hope Hurt can at least endorse strong conservatives. In any case, he proved that conservatives can win our district.

FRegards and Merry Christmas!

I plan on sending him a thank you note.
He heard plenty from me when I was upset with DC, which has been most of the last seven years.

Yes, a conservative can easily win the district and keep it once in office.

Merry Christmas to you and may the Lord Bless you and yours in the coming New Year.

“I plan on sending him a thank you note.”

Please add ‘Arthur Wildfire! March’ in that ‘thank you’.

I’d appreciate it.

‘Jolliness and Cheers’ to you and yours!

If he’s simply mad at Paul Ryan, that’s a big mistake. Our next president could use all the friendly House members he can get. Maybe he has an endorsement in mind? I hope so! If not, heck, you might consider runing?

Me!?
I would rather play piano in a New Orleans cat house than be a politician!

Just read state senator Tom Garrett of Buckingham is going to run for Hurts seat.
A couple other republicans are interested.
Two democrats have looked at running also.
