Forty years ago there were no cases of Rabies in my state. Now, dead backyard raccoons and foxes test positive all the time. I have wondered why - this isn’t being directly transmitted by humans.

I can answer that one (source ag dept state of PA), one name, “Have-A-Heart” traps. People trap rabid animals and release them into areas with no rabies. This has been going on for many years. People used to shoot wild animal pests, now they want to hear how “humane” they are.
Yeah a lot of folks don’t know any better than to pet a ring tailed kitty they see out in broad daylight, lol.

When were any of these wiped out? Armadillos have always carried leprosy here in the states, TB has always been a threat world wide- Ecoli has never even come close to being wiped out- Dengue fever has never been eradicated In the states as far as I know- The possible reason for it’s rise in recent years is likely due to envirowackos banning DDT, banning spraying for mosquitos like we used to, people living in more squalid conditions in tightly packed communities with loads of standing water etc then we used to, and really it doesn’t take much to accidently import the mosquito that carries dengue and malaria- L:ook at how west nile virus is infiltrating the US
and just for the record, here I nthe states, we have always had bubonic plague, pneumonic plague, black death hunta virus etc - people have consistently died from plague all along- we just don’t hear much about it until an outbreak occurs
One more BIG reason to shut down Immigration.
