CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Panthers quarterback Cam Newton suggested for the first time Wednesday that race may play a factor in why he's become a lightning rod for public criticism.
"I'm an African-American quarterback that scares people because they haven't seen nothing that they can compare me to," said the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Newton.
The No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL draft out of Auburn, Newton has his share of detractors who either don't like how he plays, his celebrations or his abundance of self-confidence.

For the very first time I do believe their really is a concussion syndrome.
My team is not in the bowl, so I was going to root for the team that has not won a super bowl. But seeing Cam do his super man thing turns me off. Running QBs in the NFL seem to have a short shelf life.
I live in New England, and Newton gives me ample reason to root for Peyton Manning on February 7th.

Personally, I don’t give a crap that he’s black. He’s a prick! That’s why I don’t care for him!!
That is exactly why I want them to lose. I didn’t know he was black, I am colorblind when it comes to the race of a person. They are making that real hard to do for me these days.
