"Morning is coming," said Ted Cruz as he took the stage in Iowa to declare victory in the 2016 Republican caucus.
He wasn't referring to how long his victory speech went — even though it was so long that by the end no TV network was covering it. It was a deliberate callback to Republican hero Ronald Reagan, whose slogan in 1984, "Morning in America," has become a slogan of a conservative golden age.
Cruz vastly overperformed expectations and outhustled Donald Trump to win 29 percent of Iowa voters. And while the length of his speech kind of distracted from its content, it was the most focused and impassioned Cruz has sounded on a national stage throughout his campaign.
Cruz does not come off as a happy man on the campaign trail; he comes off as a warrior. His victory speech, which described his state co-chairs (metaphorically) "crawling under broken glass with knives between their teeth," was appropriately martial. But with the backing of thousands of Iowa caucus-goers behind him, Cruz sounded commanding rather than petulant.
"Do you want to know what scares the Washington cartel?" Cruz asked the crowd at one point. When they shouted back "You!," the man who is so despised by the GOP establishment that many of them are backing Donald Trump just to prevent Cruz's nomination demurred.
"Actually, not remotely," Cruz said, not entirely truthfully. "I don't scare them in the tiniest bit. What scares them is you."...

The lengthy duration of Cruz’s speech evoked that of another cuban: Fidel Castro.
Thank goodness the media here isn’t controlled by the state, so they freely chose to go elsewhere after 20 minutes. :)
Probably the only state Ted Cruz will win. And he’s still ineligible.
It must drive Castro mad that the son of one of his formerly tortured subjects is about to become the President of the United States!

Cruz echoes Reagan in Iowa? But the caucus voters didn’t since they gave the victory to GHWB over Reagan in 1980.

As I recall, in 1980 the Republican party didn’t like Reagan either.
That is absolutely true. If we don’t get someone in there who goes on offense at least as hard as Barack Obama, we could easily lose the country forever. The ONLY MAN in the race who fits that description is Ted Cruz!
Prediction: The sleazy Cruz machine will get crushed in NH and Doc Carson will end up endorsing fellow outsider Trump afterwords.
