This is in some respects a political show, and we are in the throes of hands-down the most insane presidential race in history. What do you make of it, and more specifically, of the rise of Donald Trump? It seems to me that, given the relentless 24-hour news cycle, it was only a matter of time before we had a media-savvy reality star ascend to this perch.
Man, I don't know! Trump leaves me speechless. When he came down that escalator to announce that he was going to run for president, I thought to myself that it was a smart joke, and it was a way of basically renewing his brand, refreshing himself in the press, and getting to the forefront. I figured he would run for a while, then drop out, and that would be the end of it. And instead, you talk about media-savvy, but he's really the anti-media-savvy candidate. At this point, he's said 40 different things that would have gotten him laughed out of the race if he wasn't so outrageous.
In the debate the Republicans had [in New Hampshire], Marco Rubio repeated the same talking point three or four times--and got his clock cleaned by Christie--and it's almost like his candidacy has become a very perilous thing. It was a classic gotcha moment. But if it would've been Trump, it wouldn't have mattered, because this guy can say that "Megyn Kelly was after me" because she was on her period. He can say he didn't mean that, but that's obviously what he meant. He can talk about Ted Cruz being a p***y and it just bounces off! It's like he's bulletproof. Will he get nominated? I would've said the idea is ridiculous even four months ago, but now I'm not so sure. Then people are saying that if he does get nominated he'd never get elected, and I'm saying, well, hopefully that won't happen. But who knows.
I personally find Ted Cruz to be a scarier prospect for America than Donald Trump. Trump was singing a very different tune a decade-plus ago--he was essentially a Democrat--so he's just pandering to his base, but Cruz is a horse of a different color.
He's very scary. I actually think Trump, in the end, would be more electable than Cruz because Cruz is a fundamentalist Christian and it would almost be like electing the analog of an Imam--someone whose first guiding principle would be the scripture rather than the Constitution. But I don't think he could get elected. And, even if he was able to govern without blowing up the world, could we look at a guy who resembles a cable game show host for four years? He has that awful plastered-down hair and everything.

What a sage!
Geez, he thinks he’s so damned smart. You’d think that truck hitting him would humble him some, but I guess not.
Glad you summarized. I’ve never been able to penetrate the cloud of pomposity that surrounds anything by or about this commercially successful mediocrity.
“”Cruz is a fundamentalist Christian and it would almost be like electing the analog of an Imam—someone whose first guiding principle would be the scripture rather than the Constitution””
Good grief! He obviously doesn’t study history and has no idea of the controversy surrounding the nomination/election of JFK to the presidency. OR he does but thinks no one else does.
King sounds like Jimmy Carter:
That is an extremely rediculous analogy. Makes no sense. Exaggerated for emphasis?
He is just another liberal nut job.
No. The problem isn’t that Christians are scary. The problem is that what I believe we are dealing with is an outer wrapping that can be visualized as Ayn Rand in a Catholic schoolgirl uniform. This covers a core that looks to be one part Nietzsche’s abyss, and one part the decision-making algorithm exhibited by his dad.
Geez, he thinks heâs so damned smart
Living proof that being a great writer does not make one a great cogitator...
and there is no doubt...he is a great writer...
That and he has problems with his hair.
Yeah, someone who looks like King probably shouldn’t make fun of other’s looks...but he obviously knows that, and is stirring the pot...
Cruz is a fundamentalist Christian and it would almost be like electing the analog of an Imam...
Once I called it Ignorance. Then I called it Delusion. Now I call it Evil.
“”That is an extremely ridiculous analogy. Makes no sense. Exaggerated for emphasis? “”
Hard to come up with any rational thought that would support his idea....I don’t think he needs any. Just put it out there and get attention with it. And to think some people make a living this way! Scary!
If that van would have been just a little more to the right.
These are quotes from a writer? Sounds more like the ramblings of a 12-year-old.
As for this one:
When he came down that escalator to announce that he was going to run for president, I thought to myself that it was a smart joke....
Gee, Stephen, you thought to yourself? Tell me, how can you think to someone other than yourself?
Being a highly successful writer is not the same as being a great writer.
I doubt that people put any more stock in the ravings of this loon than they do in the raving loon Beck. A wash in loons.
lmao.. I HAVE no hair.. I’m a skinhead :D
