Uh, he’s right. How else could a prism break down white light into a rainbow. He is also correct in stating that black is the absence of all color, in the visible spectrum anyway.

Visible spectrum but not pigment. Melt a box of crayons, it appears black because it absorbs all colors of the spectrum. The color white reflects all the colors.
