Appearing as a guest on Friday's Fox and Friends, FNC's Geraldo Rivera touted GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump as "the reasonable man on the stage" at last night's presidential debate, and went on to praise Trump's "unparalleled courage" for taking a position of neutrality on the Arab-Israeli conflict.
After acknowledging that the GOP presidential candidate would have to answer for his history of having illegal immigrants doing construction work for him, Rivera brought up Trump's position on Israel as he added:
My point, Brian, is that in the big picture this was the reasonable man on the stage. How is that, that this is the person who stands up there and says in an act I think of unparalleled courage in American politics: "I am going to be neutral when it comes to Israel and the Arab surrounding nations...FNC's Rivera Lauds Trump's 'Unparalleled Courage' of Being Neutral on Israel
After co-host Brian Kilmeade jumped in to complain, "Hamas is equal with Israel? That's an embarrassing statement!" Rivera continued:
Brian, do you want peace or do you want this deteriorating situation, this malignant situation to continue? He is a man who doesn't say, "I'm only on one side."
Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Friday, February 26, Fox and Friends on FNC:
8:18 a.m. ET
GERALDO RIVERA: I think that that particular story is an embarrassment Donald Trump has to deal with. My point, Brian, is that in the big picture this was the reasonable man on the stage. How is that, that this is the person who stands up there and says in an act I think of unparalleled courage in American politics: "I am going to be neutral when it comes to Israel and the Arab surrounding nations, I want-"
BRIAN KILMEADE: Hamas is equal with Israel? That's an embarrassing statement!
RIVERA: It's the other -- Brian, do you want peace or do you want this deteriorating situation, this malignant situation to continue? He is a man who doesn't say, "I'm only on one side." He's a man who says, I want, don't you think-
KILMEADE: An eleventh grade social studies kid would know the answer to that question.
RIVERA: All right, let me ask you this, let me ask you this: Can anyone put these people together in a room and negotiate in the way that Trump has negotiated: "What do you give up? What do you give up? Okay, I'll give this street, I'll give you that neighborhood. You can have that wall. You can have this synagogue. You can have that mosque." I think that Trump is the only one that can reasonably negotiate a deal in the Middle East.
KILMEADE: He doesn't even understand the history of the -- he doesn't even understand the history of the peace talks. You got to go there with the knowledge and a fundamental understanding.
Oy vey. He needs this kind of praise like he needs a hole in the head.
Looks like Trump has the coveted Geraldo vote.
Is Geraldo truly naive enough to believe that peace between Israelis and Muslims is possible? It appears so.
More theatrics. Trump has said before he’s 100% for Israel but if he tries to broker a peace deal, he would conduct negotiations from a neutral position.
Neutrality:
“Guys, do what you gotta do...and may the best nation win.”
:^)
Geraldo has been a Loser for years
(incidentally, who the hell wants these media figure heads to be spouting off their wacko political views and showing their ignorance all the time? I want to hear more from the candidates and a whole lot less from Ahole media boobs~)
Excellent post ...you accurately summed it up
The world is upside down. Geraldo and half the posters on Free Republic agreeing on something. #trumpchumplogic
That is the sign of a good negotiator. Keep dialogue between the sides open.
Bernie, from “Weekend at Bernie’s” had more discernment than Heraldo.
Dear “Geraldo”......not standing up and being willing to defeating Islamics and IslamoNazis .... is definitely NOT ‘courageous’.. its either extremely cowardly or else super-ignorant of the danger we face...or shows you’re simply sold out to the enemy. (at least we know candidate Trump’s not sold out!)
I'm a yuuuge Trump supporter but that statement is a knee slapper. That sh!t show AKA debate was a joke from start to finish. At the end, I would have voted for Kasich just because of the garbage that went on. Lolz
It’s not about peace between the Israeli’s and the Muslims. It’s about peace between the Israeli’s and the Palestinians.
Trump should have turned around on that stage and flat out told Rubio and Cruz that they flat out failed and could never negotiate (as in pick ones path carefully) successfully for Israel.
Trump wins the +1 smooth move award anyway.
The answer is the same either way -- peace is not possible. Geraldo and most other libs naively believe that it is.
its about Israel and the Muslims. The whole Israel-Palestinian conflict is a religious one in which the Palestinians, a subset of the Muslim world, with whom the Muslim nations and people side nearly uniformly and unconditionally, don’t want a non-Islam country in their midst. Ever wonder why the Palestinian leader Al-Husseini wasn’t some political apparatchik (like Ben Gurion), but a Grand Mufti? Not to mention that nearly all the terrorism against Israel occurs to the tune of Allahu Akbar, and since the Pan-Arabism “secular” mask came off following the Bolsheviks exit from the Middle east, has been.
Also, notice how nearly all the countries that lack relations with Israel are Islam countries?
Its a shame self-haters like Geraldo (whose half Jewish) clearly buy into the idea that anti-Semitism would disappear were not for Israel vs. the Islams.
Does Rivera know that Trump made a political ad for Netanyahu when he last ran for Prime Minister?
Geraldo, like many of the mindless twits on the left, once again is spinning yarn made of shadows.
Trump is FOR Israel, but in negotiating with Pali’s and Israel, he wants to take a neutral stance.
I just watched the Houston debate tonight for the first time. I’d begun to watch it when cnn pulled the utube plug and one of the freepers was hoping to find a full version of that debate..so I went looking, and then couldn’t find the thread so I could post the link.
Anyway, All of the candidates had some really interesting things to say about that situation, all made some really good points. It’s my observation that Trump was listening and learning because he kept his mouth shut while they spoke. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him dig deeper into it and learn even more. But THAT was what he meant..was in being able to talk to both parties, and be fair.
I’ve noticed that he’s really well informed about a lot of things, and especially who the world players are. He’s got a basic understanding of some of their positions, and who influences whom. But, there’s a lot more for him to learn, so it’s also been my observation that he does exactly that..he goes and learns.
I was impressed with the debate. Aside from the BS between Rubix cube and looser-cruzer, all of the candidates had some very good stuff to say.
the funniest thing was Kilmeade trying to pretend he was smarter than trump and knew the history better... Kilmeade, I like, but is dumb as a box of rocks...
