Washington State to possibly impose Carbon Tax
The Republic ^ | Updated: 2/28/16 4:25 pm EST | PHUONG LE

SEATTLE — Washington could become the first state in the nation to impose a direct tax on carbon emissions from fossil fuels such as coal, gasoline and natural gas.

A ballot measure before the state Legislature would create a carbon tax of $25 per metric ton of fossil fuel emissions burned in Washington, while reducing taxes.

Lawmakers have until the end of the session on March 10 to enact Initiative 732, offer an alternative proposal or automatically pass the carbon-tax measure to voters in November as written. It's not clear whether lawmakers will approve an alternative by the end of the session.

It's likely coming folks- First Washington, then NY, then Mass- then it will sweep the nation- it's a massive golden goose that the left (and rinos) have been salivating over for decades, and now that they've succeeded in brainwashing everyone about the issue, the taxes will start flying fast and furious. Everything is goign to now be scrutinized for it's 'climate impact', and taxes will be imposed- And since everything we do practically has some effect on our surroundings, they will interpret that impact as 'climate impact' because, well, now they can since noone even bothers questioning them any longer and they can do this without any proof that it is causing climate change.

At least they don’t have a state income tax.

step 1... pick a substance that is literally in everything in the Universe ... carbon

step 2 ... set up a way to monitor the entire planet ... the internet / google

step 3 ... tax the hell out of carbon and any behavior you want to control

My daughter lives in Seattle. It is basically a communist state. A statue of Lenin is in the northern part of the city. Minimum wage is $15/hr. and you must allow workers 11hrs between work. Bums are 1st class citizens that’d better not hit with car and every elevator I was in had someone smoking dope.

That should bankrupt the state.

At the pump, the tax would add 25 cents a gallon under the $25 a metric ton price, sponsors say.

We already have one of the nations highest gasoline taxes. These one party rule dems in this state are relentless.

It really should be the “carbon dioxide tax”, “CO2 emmissions”, …, and so on.

This is not merely an academic point. Ignoring the oxygen atoms and calling CO2 “carbon” makes about as much sense as ignoring the oxygen in water (H2O) and calling it “hydrogen.”

Imagine getting your next water bill on an invoice labeled “hydrogen tax.” That might be an effective public relations tool for anti-hydro power campaigners, but most of the public would regard such a communications trick as ridiculous.

The “CO2 is carbon” mistake is no less farcical. … This error is not harmless. It is part of the way language has been distorted to bolster concerns about human-caused climate change. Calling carbon dioxide “carbon” encourages people to think of the gas as “pollution” or something “dirty,” like graphite or soot. That is undoubtedly why AL Gore calls it “carbon pollution.”

Yep, we’re at $.559 per gallon now which is 6th highest in the nation. Add the quarter a gallon and we go to $.809 which would be $.119 per gallon more than any other state.

I hate how the West side of the state (mainly King county) dictates how things run in our state. The Dems have just killed us in WA. I sure hope we can get rid of Inslee as Governor but then again, WA hasn’t had a Republican Governor since 1984.

Not really one-party, right? There has been a republican-lead majority caucus (including a few Dems) that typically votes fiscally conservatively.

This probably won’t pass.

Initiative 732?

Within my sphere of influence, Initiative 732 is better known as Directive 10-289.

Cap N Tax has given California a lot of extra dough to play with. I can see where this will be attractive to politicians.

Obama, Pelosi, and Reid could have gotten it passed nationally when they had control of Congress, but spent all their time pushing through Obamacare.

Every pencil contains graphite. Graphite is a form of carbon. When pencils are used, that carbon is released, and left on whatever as a residue. Tax pencils!!

(It makes just as much sense.)

Looks like I'll be buying my diamonds in Oregon, now. Oh, wait, I already do. Last purchase saved me almost $300 in sales taxes.

Live and work in income tax free Washington and buy expensive stuff in sales tax free Oregon. I'm livin' the dream, baby.

Don’t mean to trash the most beautiful of states. We’ve visited several times and the views are breathless. It’s too bad so many queer commies from California were allowed to settle there!
