Cruz: Trump Is Manipulating 'Low-Information' Voters

Ted Cruz accused Republican front-runner Donald Trump of taking advantage of 'angry, low-information voters.'

“Listen, Donald does well with voters who have relatively low information, who are not that engaged and who are angry and they see him as an angry voice,” Cruz told “The Brody File” in an interview conducted Wednesday and published Thursday.

Cruz, who has racked up wins in Idaho, Maine and Kansas in the past week, said his campaign performs better among informed, engaged voters.

“When they inform themselves, they realize his record,” Cruz said. “He’s what they’re angry at. He is the corruption, and if you want someone to stand up to Washington, the only one who has been doing so in this race is me.”

The Texas senator acknowledged Trump has done well in Southeastern states — he’s won Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. But Cruz said his campaign has done well in that pocket of the country, too, often coming in second to the New York billionaire but still picking up delegates.

“Now Donald has a harder problem in the West,” Cruz said. “It’s interesting. I mean, his location, he does well in the Southeast. He does well with a certain demographic of voter. Donald gave a press conference where he said, to quote him, ‘I love the poorly educated.’” Cruz suggested Trump is “taking advantage of his voters because” they’re angry. “I understand what they’re angry about, but, Donald, if you’re angry at the corruption of Washington, you don’t solve it by supporting someone who has been enmeshed in the Washington corruption for 40 years,” he said.

If the Dem can have low-info voters (as we often claim they do), then it stands to reason that the GOP has low-info voters as well.

I am a highly informed voter and I see the benefits of trump. Actually, I am so highly informed and so smart that I can see right through your misrepresentation of trump’s positions.

Like Cruz tried to manipulate Chick Norris??

Didn’t go too well. Ted should shut up about this kind of stuff, or at least not make it so obvious Trump is living rent free in his head.

So you think Trump is not manipulating low infomation voters? Sure looks like it to me. Lots of them are right here on Free Republic where they happily regurgitate Trumps most outrageous and transparent lies. It’s sad, really, to see how far Free Republic has fallen. These paid trolls used to be zotted by the moderators, but no more, it seems.

What makes you say this was any sort of manipulation? Looks to me more like a misunderstanding. It certainly didn’t help Cruz, did it?

The statement wasn’t referring to you, I guess. I didn’t take offense, either. But, I haven’t been branded yet. Still open.

Second that, But it’s not a lack of info. It’s the lack of will to think. Fear and Anger make people stupid. Trumpsters are randomly lashing out.

Ted isn’t this stupid. He’s got more bad people on his team feeding him this stuff to repeat. He needs a new campaign manager.

What is low information and disengaged voter these days? Do they not slave over 3 hours of talking heads a night?

No, they’re the people that work all day. Take care of a family at night — sit back and say, hey yea, I am paying too much in taxes.

I think it’s proof that he’s getting genuine support from Democrat voters actually.
