The Electoral College could still stop Trump, even if he wins the popular vote
Washington Post ^ | March 17, 2016 | Derek T. Muller

Donald Trump will be the GOP’s presidential nominee. Within the party, talk of a brokered Republican National Convention or even a supporting a third-party candidate has circulated among those hoping to stop him from becoming the next president, leaving Trump antagonists across the spectrum to ponder whether there’s any fail-safe left, after November, to stop a Trump administration from becoming a reality.

There is. The Electoral College.

Dubya won with fewer popular votes than Algore. I suppose the same could happen to Trump.

Straws are extremely poor flotation devices, and often collapse quickly when seized too forcefully.

But that may be all they still have.

Hope the Washington Post likes covering an insurrection.

I fear this would trigger an armed insurrection.

Not exactly why the Founding Fathers put the electoral college into the Constitution.

BTW, yesterday Mark Levin gave a nice little lecture on how the Republicans brokered also-ran Lincoln into the party’s candidate.

How did that turn out for the country?

They have seen their polls that Trump wins NY. As they say that changes everything. Name a red state that will go to the “barking dog”.

Donald Trump will be the GOP’s presidential nominee.

Most likely, but it ain't over yet. If Kasich drops out, Cruz has a shot... but again, most likely, it is Trump... and so, most likely, we get Madame President.

I think he wins the electoral easier then the popular votes. He easily takes Virginia, Florida and Ohio. That is game set match. Anything else in the purple column is gravy.

The Washington Post recommends that state legislatures vote for electors against Trump even if he wins the popular vote.

It truly is the Washington establishment against the people.

“Trump hasn’t won yet. But it is increasingly likely that we will reach precisely the kind of scenario that the founders worried about — divisive political discourse threatens to thrust a dangerous candidate into office who appears inclined to govern more like a monarch than a president. Opportunities remain for cooler heads to prevail in our presidential election. And state legislatures should consider doing so this year.”
