From my understanding, me being a Catholic, I don’t think the LDS children fast until after they are 8 years old, that’s when they are baptized into the religion...

No, I think the parents can withhold food at any age.

From my understanding, me being a Catholic, I dont think the LDS children fast until after they are 8 years old, thats when they are baptized into the religion...Actually, the whole family participates on Fast Sunday. The infants still get their bottles. The very young children that aren't up to understanding what it going on will get some snacks to get them through. Most kids "get it" by age 5 and are happy to participate. The family donates the equivalent of the money they would spend on food as a fast offering. That money stays locally with the bishop to help families in the ward with financial hardships.
