He followed with saying pretty much the same thing about the U.N.

The true bottom line fact was :

“In all, the U.S. provides 73 per cent of NATO’s defense spending.”

Frankly, having been assigned to NATO support positions in my capacity as an active duty military member of the USAF, and after observing first hand the conduct, particularly of the French and German military members specifically, Trump is vastly understating what needs to happen to NATO.

And with the expansion of the EU as a quasi-federalist type government over vastly disparate European states, who have little in common other than a mutual dislike of the USA, I say it’s past time to review and renegotiate that treaty.

No you’re right, but I’ll wager Hillary starts saying it next. She’s been shamelessly ripping off Trump’s policy positions for weeks.

Now on this I agree 100 percent. We should have gone out of the Useless Nations decades ago, or kicked the Useless Nations out of the US.

Whatever else can be said about Donald Trump, everyone can agree he is a provocateur who, intentionally or not, stirs controversy on subjects to which little political attention has been focused.

See, right away the author sets up a false premise.

It's time other nations be responsible for their own security. If they had, Islamists wouldn't be invading Europe as we're speaking.

Get the U.S. out of these blood-sucking, parasitic, post-WWII organizations that have outlived their usefulness.

NATO and sharing troop commitments and financial responsibility has been a subject for a long time.

There are but a few nations that we should align ourselves with. Poland-and some surrounding countries, the UK-and even them I would question, Canada, and maybe a couple others.

Take a look at the size of the Euro nations miltary compared to ours.

As far as Russia is concerned, they have a problem, a large portion of their military is supposed to be Muslim.

That’s what I was going to say- First dump NATO, then dump the UN. They are as worthless as our JV, affirmative action president.

Let’s get out of NATO so that we can reduce the readiness of our forces even more.

My impression of NATO has always been one of traditional forces — land, sea, air. This article talks about how NATO is still useful but needs to “focus” more on terrorism and immigrant issues.

The forces needed for anti-terrorism and immigrant issues are NOTHING AT ALL like the land, sea, air forces NATO has always focused on. Any attempt to “refocus” NATO would be pointless as those legacy bureaucrats are completely unsuited for anti-terroism and yet would do nothing but drag their feet to retain their old methods and position.

Am I wrong ?

“..Putin IS ON OUR SIDE KILLING MOSLEMS!!”

NO, Putin was not on our side. A military leader called what Putin did WINDOW DRESSING!!!! Putin wanted to help Assad, etc..

Radical Muslims want to see NATO gone, as does Putin and Trump.

Not that time when NATO attacked a WWII ally which did nothing more than defend itself against radical muslims taking over territory it held for the past 1000 years. I remember because it was the first German bombing run since WWII. The Germans were on the wrong side both times.

However, TODAY ISIS, and other radical Islamists, don’t want a strong NATO.

I like to keep things in long term perspective. The islamists are about to take over a bunch of NATO countries. It will take decades but it is basically a done deal. We are damned if we stay in the greater caliphate army or damned if we leave. If we stay in, we will be infected with the same rot. If we leave the NATO countries will strengthen their militaries which will bite us when we become enemies (inevitable if we stay free).

You sure give up easily. Giving up is what sets us up to lose to bullies.

Peace through strength!

No one else is talking about NATO needing to be reframed.

-----------

Obama just called NATO worthless in the Atlantic magazine - he called them freeloaders I think. But Trump says it and they freak out twice as much as when Obama said it.

Trump or Obama? Who said this about America's foreign policy and military allies?

A military leader called what Putin did WINDOW DRESSING!!!!

I'll call BS on that statement... it sounds like something John Kerry would say.

There's no question Russia's entry in the Syrian conflict has turned the tide against the radical islamists and exposed the piddling efforts of the American led coalition.

Minority Christians, Kurds, Allowites, etc. in Syria and Iraq would all disagree that turning the tide against the Islamist scum is mere 'window dressing'. I sure would like to know the name of the idiot in the US military who said that.
