There is a test called the smell test.

Yes, and these employees apparently did not use it.

There’s such a thing as being overly susceptible to authoritarianism.

I believe they were told, “High levels of carbon monoxide”, smash all the windows.

This is comedy gold.

There is a test called the smell test.

Carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless and tasteless.

The first safety step would be to get all the people out of there. Carbon monoxide can’t hurt inanimate equipment, etc.

A coworker once called the receptionist on an outside line and told her he was from the power company and they were requesting local businesses to close early to avoid brown- and blackouts. He was sure she would recognize his voice. Nope. (Or else she wanted the rest of the day off too.) About five minutes later the boss notified us that we would be leaving early that day.

Yeah, they’re worth 15 an hour alright.

I know at least one of the stores smashing out their windows was caught on video. I’ll bet some fairly malicious people are having a good laugh tonight. I hope all of them get caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

What really makes me sad is the sheer gullibility of the managers. It seems to be proven, day after day, story after story, that we’re getting dumber and dumber. Those of us who still have functioning centers of reason and common sense are becoming more amazed...and frightened...every day.

I am becoming more and more convinced that this world...not to mention our country...is done for.

“Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

Geez, back in the day we thought it was great fun to:

Call the bowling alley and ask them if they had 8 lb balls.

Pick a name out of the phone book and ask if their refrigerator was running.

I don’t ever recall calling a store and asking if they had Prince Albert in a tin though.

Today it is “SWATing” and “knock out your windows”.

It is interesting that it has worked in so many places. Of course when you have 19 year-olds running the phones with probably little real-world experience running the place.....

I imagine the “fear factor” motivates the kids to not think first and just react.

Off-topic, but you know they aren’t the brightest kids when the doors say “These doors must remain unlocked during business hours”.

Maybe before Jesus comes, a memo will come from the headquarters of these companies about safety procedures....

When firefighters got there, they used a device to check the business but found no signs of the deadly gas.

Well, duh! They broke all the windows out.

I wish I could have been there when fire personnel told them they didn’t contact anyone there. Priceless.

This degree of stupidity is almost incomprehensible.

Poor education? Obedience to authority? Genetics?

Nothing seems to explain it, except... hey! Could it have been a setup - an excuse to act violently - with the call made by a friend of an employee? That would be too depraved, wouldn’t it?

There was a ‘doctor’ who called women out of the blue, convinced them they had a life threatening disease and the only cure was a ‘house call’ involving sex. Some fell for it. Another was the optometrist who performed his eye exams by getting female patients to remove their blouse and bra.
