Via BuzzFeed, Im going to be bold and pronounce this the single Trumpiest thing hes said since the campaign began. Really! Trumpier than him goofing on McCain for being taken prisoner in Vietnam, Trumpier than him goofing on his fans by claiming theyd stick with him even if he shot someone in broad daylight. Im a lapsed Catholic turned nonbeliever so Ill let the faithful among our readers correct me, but isnt this
one of the worst possible answers that a Christian could give to this question? An eye for an eye does appear in the Bible, true, but its Old Testament; it was specifically repudiated by Jesus himself in the gospel of Matthew in favor of turn the other cheek, as John McCormack notes. The whole point of Christianity, I thought, is to resist vengeance and embrace forgiveness, and its captured nowhere more succinctly than in the rejection of an eye for an eye. So heres Trump, whos been half-heartedly pandering to evangelicals since last summer, deciding that the lesson from the Bible that sticks with him is the one about, um, revanchism, which Jesus instructed his disciplines to ignore. Its like naming Baal your favorite member of the holy trinity.

Is that in Four Corinthians or Two Exodus?
From the book of Daniels, CHARLIE Daniels ...
“Well, you know what’s wrong with the world today
People done gone and put their Bibles away
They’re living by the law of the jungle not the law of the land
The Good Book says it so I know it’s the truth
An eye for and eye and a tooth for a tooth
You better watch where you go and remember where you been
That’s the way I see it I’m a Simple Man.”
WORKS FOR ME.
It's from St. Donald's letter to the Coloradans.
Trump has bad Christian values by gigglygolly.
Eye for eye is not what most people think. It actually tempered how the other nations and peoples reacted to an injury. It is meant to levy a punishment that fits the injury. For example, if you stole my cow if not eye for eye I might seek that you be killed. Under eye for eye law, I am entitled to one cow.
Don’t forget about the passage concerning kicking illegal aliens out of the country. Oh, never mind. :>)
Trump’s favorite Bible verse:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.” -Jesus, Matthew 5:38-42
[Eye for eye is not what most people think.]
JESUS revised the eye for an eye punishment. Tell THE DONALD. :)
38 You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.[o] 39 But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also. 40 If you are sued in court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too. 41 If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile,[p] carry it two miles. 42 Give to those who ask, and dont turn away from those who want to borrow.
That is at least from scripture, and not some bogus prophecy from a cult.
I believe under Levitical law you would be entitled to 4 cows. (shall repay fourfold)
Great minds think alike. LOL
It’s in COMMON SENSE!
Deuteronomy 30:19K (KJV)
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
Proverbs 22:3 (KJV)
A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
If I remember by "Old Testament" God usually just told the Israelites to slay any outsiders in their lands, so actually Trump is being overly generous by only building a wall and kicking them out.
Donald Trump to Bill O’Reilly: I Should Forgive FoxBut an Eye for an Eye
Well that’s all fine and good, however the Bible says we are all sinners who have fallen short of the Glory of God, so we might aspire to the standards established by, and taught by Jesus, but nobody is going to actually achieve them.
My late Grandfather said to “turn the other cheek” too, but he also said “you’ve only got four cheeks to turn, and after you’ve turned all of them, grab the sonuvabitch by the neck and kick his ass!”
An eye for an eye keeps us just. The 2 greatest commandments keeps us righteous, loving God with all our heart, and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
When the neighbor hurts us remember justice. a proportional response, and what you would want if in fact it was an accident or you were innocent.
Remember to defend yourself and that consequences are very educational if just and proportional.
First FR chuckle of the day. Thanks.
