New rules allow more civilian casualties in air war against Islamic State

The Pentagon has approved airstrikes that risk more civilian casualties in order to destroy Islamic State targets as part of its increasingly aggressive fight against the militant group in Iraq and Syria, according to interviews with military officials and data.

Since last fall, the Pentagon has delegated more authority to the commander of the war, Army Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland, to approve targets when there is the risk that civilians could be killed. Previously, authority for missions with the potential to kill innocents had been made by the higher headquarters of U.S. Central Command. Seeking approval from above takes time, and targets of fleeting opportunity can be missed

There is no traditional military there. With the exception of the Syrian army and the Russians, the fighters are entirely civilians. You can’t tell the fighters from the people shopping in the bazar. Truth be told, the shoppers would like all non-Muslims just as dead as much as the fighters do. Islam is not compatible with anything westerners consider civilization. Multiculturalism to a Muslim means he considers the non-Muslim a slave.

Dresden sounds like a good model, if it is enough to break the enemy’s will.

Unfortunate, but there has never been a war without civilian casualties. We should never seek them, but we shouldn’t let the possibility of them stop us from cleaning out the jihadists once and for all.

Even this plan is only a small step forward. I would do much more.

Dresden Germany, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Nagasaki etc. These were firebombings and the last two atomic bombings. It was terror raids of destruction, death, horror, agony and pain. Terror works. If it did not, we would not have terrorism as an integral part of the fighting in the Middle East and elsewhere.

It was moral as it broke the will of the enemy to resist. What one must always remember in "real war" there is no morality. If there was morality there would not be a war. If you are strong and your enemy knows you are willing to unleash hell and death and him and all he loves, you will not need to do this.

Fu*kin about time. ISIS is embedded in the major cities they hold so rooting them out one by one is going to be very bloody for Iraqi and allied forces. Once ISIS fighters know that we will take out a city block to eliminate them in their houses and bunkers, they will rethink their devotion to dying in a one-sided fight.

I’m all for trying NOT to hurt or kill civilians in a war, but it happens. We should try our best not to hit them, but war is hell and the enemy must be not only defeated, but physically eliminated from this earth.

Daisy cutter bombs, napalm, and even limited carpet bombing are all actual or potential weapons we can use on viable targets. Time to fight a “war”, not a “police action”.

Crispy critter time, again.

“Daisy cutter bombs, napalm, and even limited carpet bombing are all actual or potential weapons we can use on viable targets”

Daisy cutter bombs (MOABs), cluster bombs, napalm, unlimited carpet bombing, and tactical nuclear bombs are weapons to use on all available targets.
