Greater than the Mess
April 25, 2016
You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light.
2 Samuel 22:29
A major theme of the Old Testament book of 2 Samuel could easily be Life is a mess! It has all the elements of a blockbuster TV miniseries. As David sought to establish his rule as king of Israel, he faced military challenges, political intrigue, and betrayal by friends and family members. And David himself was certainly not without guilt as his relationship with Bathsheba clearly showed (chs. 1112).
Yet near the end of 2 Samuel we find Davids song of praise to God for His mercy, love, and deliverance. You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light (22:29).
In many of his difficulties, David turned to the Lord. With your help I can advance against a troop [run through a barricade]; with my God I can scale a wall (v. 30).
Perhaps we identify with Davids struggles because he, like us, was far from perfect. Yet he knew that God was greater than the most chaotic parts of his life.
With David we can say, As for God, his way is perfect: the Lords word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him (v. 31). And that includes us!
Life is messy, but God is greater than the mess.
Lord, we cannot read about the failures and difficulties of others without being reminded of our own. We bring them all to You, seeking forgiveness and Your power for a fresh start.
Its not too late to make a fresh start with God.
In 2 Samuel 22 David celebrates the faithfulness of God. Many of the same ideas and some of the same words are found in Psalm 18. The superscription to Psalm 18 says: For the director of music. Of David the servant of the Lord. He sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. These words were so important to David that he reflected on them often. Bill Crowder

I must have read "The Bridge at Dong Ha" 20 times and my Dad has probably read it 10.
The US doesn't deserve men like this anymore.

Advance Australia Fair
Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
Weve golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in natures gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In historys page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.
Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
Well toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those whove come across the seas
Weve boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.

ENGLISH LYRICS
God of Nations at Thy feet,
In the bonds of love we meet,
Hear our voices, we entreat,
God defend our free land.
Guard Pacific's triple star
From the shafts of strife and war,
Make her praises heard afar,
God defend New Zealand.

Good evening, Mac...did you and MrsMacNessa sing well today?
Hands and knees dirty?
Got my vehicle washed and stuff taken to Value Village, 2 things on my list. And half the garage swept out.
My brother is coming next week and we will tackle “The List”.

Thanks very much Kathy! And thanks to you and Star for this evening's Hall of Heroes thread!
Col. John W. Ripley, USMC (NC) is most worthy of entry to our Hall of Heroes!

I cancelled the appt yesterday, Lynn-Dah seems to have lost all the symptoms.
She is her old self again.
I am very pleased with the services at the Animal Hospital though, and will probably sign up for their regular program.
I have to go by there on Monday anyway, so i will drop in.

We sang well this morning, at least nobody threw any fruit at us.
We had a somewhat arduous day on the home front. I finally got Windows 10 reinstalled, but I still can't find Office - a total pain. Also, my cell phone went all higgledy-piggledy today - an error message took over. I ultimately had to reset the phone. Now I have a bunch of apps to reinstall.
Daniel and I got the Habaneros in this afternoon and replaced the Rosemary that was lost over the Winter.
Mrs. MacNessa and I had a nice dinner - New York Strips and sauteed mushrooms - french bread and a nice Cabernet. So on balance it was a good day.
