As some of you know, our Mom, Mari (BASIL of Freerepublic.com) , suffered a stroke in early January. It left her paralyzed on her right side and unable to speak. She's got very limited speech and her mental faculties are diminished. She spent many weeks in a therapeutic hospital but when it became apparent that her condition wouldn't improve, our family decided she'd be much happier at home.
Many people have asked how they can help our family. Most importantly, keep our parents in your prayers. Dad's an amazing caregiver but it's all very overwhelming. If you'd like to send cards or emails to our mom, we'll be sure to read them to her. (Her address is TAKEN OUT for privacy.) Please send emails to (taken out) and she'll print them out for her.

Her daughter, duly named Pesto, sent a message for us. What a lovely lady, and I will keep them in my prayers. It can be very hard for the caregiving spouse indeed. I was impressed at all Basil did for us. I wish her all the best.

I was off of FR for several years, battling a health challenge myself, but I remember Basil well and had the pleasure of meeting her personally. We were good FReeper friends back in the day.
