Actress-comedian Roseanne Barr praised Republican Donald Trump, blasted Democrat Hillary Clinton and expressed doubts about the American political system in a wide-ranging interview with the Hollywood Reporter this week. “I think we would be so lucky if Trump won,’ the 67-year-old Roseanne star told THR on the eve of the California primary. “Because then it wouldn’t be Hillary.”
Barr, whose own 2012 presidential run is the subject of the new documentary Roseanne for President!, told THR that she supports Trump in the 2016 election because to her, “[Trump] is saying that the order of law matters.”
“When a president can just pass laws all on his own, that is a little bit different than what America was supposed to be about,” Barr explained. “And Trump is saying people will have to be vetted, we’ll have to have legal immigration. It’s all a scam. I mean, illegal immigration. When people come here and they get a lot of benefits that our own veterans don’t get. What’s up with that?”

She ran for the Green Party last election cycle. She wants to see a change in the major parties so maybe it makes sense.

Reasons she is for Trump:
1) Says we need to get back to the rule of law (presidents shouldn’t be able to pass laws all by themselves).
2) Opposes illegal immigration (” It’s all a scam. I mean, illegal immigration. When people come here and they get a lot of benefits that our own veterans don’t get. What’s up with that?”).
3) Supports veterans; believes they will be treated better under Trump.
4) Thinks Hillary is a bought and paid for by special interests (says Hillary is friends “with everybody that gives her any goddamn money.”)
5) Trump is an outsider, not part of the political club (”If you’ve got friends there, they scratch your back and blah, blah”).
Not a textbook conservative, but her reasons for supporting Trump are logical and reasonable.
Golly, strange new respect for Roseanne Barr.

I find this fairly shocking ... imagine the courage it takes for ANYONE in show biz to support Trump. So I’ll give her kudos for that. And, welcome! Maybe maturing has had an effect on Roseanne.
I may take flack for this but I’ve always thought Barr was a very funny lady. I like her on “Last Comic Standing”
She actually looks better now than she did 20 years ago.

I think you have got it right.
The old alliances of conservative vs liberal are breaking down. We are now seeing nationalist vs globalist.
If you look at Barr’s reasons for supporting Trump, they could easily fit under a nationalist party.
The other thing going on is a lack of tolerance for corruption. Even Barr gets it—Hillary is corrupt.
And because many of US don't perceive Trump as a conservative, the less looney leftists don't feel the massive guilt they would supporting a real conservative. To them, if we don't love him, how bad could he be? He looks less threatening.
