OKLAHOMA CITY - You may have heard of civil asset forfeiture.

That's where police can seize your property and cash without first proving you committed a crime; without a warrant and without arresting you, as long as they suspect that your property is somehow tied to a crime.

Now, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has a device that also allows them to seize money in your bank account or on prepaid cards.

There are so many parallels to Germany circa 1940 that we might as well call ourselves Weimar.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol profiled me back in the early 90's. AZ plate and car in Hispanic name, got pulled over. When he saw we were white he goes "never mind."

I guess now he would just empty my bank account without even pulling me over.

isn’t it interesting how the left embraces stuff like assets forfeiture and turn around and calls those who appose it names like fascist.

Based on the fact that the average US citizen arguably commits three felonies a day...

http://www.amazon.com/Three-Felonies-Day-Target-Innocent/dp/1594035229

...and a large percentage of those crimes are committed online (download a pirated movie? $100,000 fine and ten years in prison) where they can be recorded and catalogued...

...I predict that one of these days the Feds are going to seize the bank and stock market accounts of a few tens of millions of non-Democrats and most of them will never get it back because the courts will be clogged with cases for decades.

Two points:

#1. Prepaid cards are stupid.

#2. If you’re stopped in OK, destroy your debit card before talking to the cop. You can get another one overnight.

"Law and order" conservatives are just as complicit in supporting this garbage as liberals are. Maybe more so. After all, if you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear from Officer Friendly.

Couldn't you just keep your cards in your glove box? Wouldn't they need a warrant to compel you to hand them over?

But, yes, destroying them immediately might be prudent until you are charged with destruction of evidence, hampering an investigation and any other trumped-up charge they could throw at you.

I just make it a policy to avoid communist states.
I won’t go to NY, CT, MA, RI, IL, CA, NJ.

"If you can prove that you have a legitimate reason to have that money it will be given back to you. And we've done that in the past," Vincent said about any money seized.

Chilling. We now have to prove that we have a "legitimate" reason to have money before the police will let us keep it?

Between the dead dogs, smashed doors, dead bystanders, asset thefts and other guilty-before-proven-innocent “crimes” going on, the right wing law and order types have been laying pretty low of late.

If they were really serious about seizing drug money they would appear with SWAT teams, FBI, DEA, sheriffs, etc. at HSBC, BofA, etc. and grab the billions laundered for the drug cartels and politicians!!!

And I can see a lot of walking “dead” people who ordered such a seizure.
They won’t last long.
