US taxpayers are funding Iran's military expansion

One of the unexpected results of President Barack Obama's new opening to Iran is that U.S. taxpayers are now funding both sides of the Middle East's arms race. The U.S. is deliberately subsidizing defense spending for allies like Egypt and Israel. Now the U.S. is inadvertently paying for some of Iran's military expenditures as well.

It all starts with $1.7 billion the U.S. Treasury wired to Iran's Central Bank in January, during a delicate prisoner swap and the implementation of last summer's nuclear deal to resolve a long-standing dispute about the Iran's arms purchases before the revolution of 1979.

For months it was unclear what Iran's government would do with this money. But last month the mystery was solved when Iran's Guardian Council approved the government's 2017 budget that instructed Iran's Central Bank to transfer the $1.7 billion to the military.

Saeed Ghasseminejad, an associate fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, spotted the budget item. He told me the development was widely reported in Iran by numerous sources including the state-funded news services. "Article 22 of the budget for 2017 says the Central Bank is required to give the money from the legal settlement of Iran's pre- and post-revolutionary arms sales of up to $1.7 billion to the defense budget," he said.

All funding for Iran has come from Boehner and Ryan
who controlled all funding.

The lying, EXEMPT GOP funded Iran to murder MORE Americans
— even as the insane pRes_ _ent releases terrorists
by the THOUSANDS, and released the COLE bombers.

The EXEMPT GOP’s response? They used the IRS to attack
conservatives, led by EXEMPT McCain and DNC’s Schumer.

Unexpected?? I suspect not. This is Obama trying to make Iran the Hegemon of the Middle East and helping the Mullah’s develop the capability to destroy Israel.

I’m curious, where does Iran buy their arms from?

I really dislike our Congressional leadership but the truth is that the sanctions laws gave President Obama the ability to dissolve the sanctions on Iran and to unfreeze it's assets at his sole and complete discretion

Obama did not need Congress to do what he did.

Dropping sanctions and releasing frozen Iranian assets was and is extremely unpopular with Americans so Obama wanted to political cover to drop sanctions and release frozen assets in the form of Congressional approval.

Congress wanted some say in the Iran deal so they cut the deal they made with Obama in hopes it would moderate Obama

It did not and Obama took advantage to cut an even worse deal than if Congress did not involve itself.

At the end of the day, the Iranian deal was never formally passed because it violated the deal terms.

The Democrats prevented a vote, which made it look like Obama had a deal, which he did and does not.

Iran never approved the deal either.

The State Dept has confirmed the Obama Iran Nuclear Deal deal is not operative and non binding.

Since Obama theoretically still had the right to unilaterally dissolve sanctions and release Iran's frozen assets he did what he could have done regardless - unilaterally dissolve the sanctions and release Iran's assets under his sole authority.

Obama keeps pretending the Iranian Nuclear Deal is operative even though it is not so he can continue to pretend Congress shares the blame with him

No one in Congress has the balls to call Obama on this, probably because they were bribed to participate in this sham.

DEFUND totalitarian collectives, foreign and domestic. DISMANTLE/DESTROY as necessary.

The Gang of 535 (current and many former) should be in federal prison.

Another example of the most evil government in the history of the republic.

Someone needs to do a little research before they start writing articles for publication. The money that was “wired” to Iran was Iranian money to begin with. It was frozen in ‘79. It was sitting in the banks for all these years.

I don’t think it should have gone back, but it wasn’t taxpayer money.

We knew this would happen. Just like so many things the outcome is predictable.

The intended consequence has been realized.
