A survey question in a presidential poll I got asked why it is that the unemployment rate always drops under democrats and rises with republicans. It had “charts” to back it up.

When are they going to make those posters?
One of the most painful topics to me is space exploration, or rather the complete lack thereof. After our contest with the Soviets was over we basically lost interest in anything besides putting up satellites. Now that we have no threat, no real competition and no drive the changes of going back to the moon are basically zip even if our economy wasn’t crippled. America is one of the >5 nations that could even possibly afford space travel at all, much less on any regular basis.
Private industry was touted as the Big Thing to revitalize all things space. I called it as BS even in high school because businesses need to make a profit and a short-term profit in space simply doesn’t exist. That’s the kind of thing that needs a very long-term bootstrap investment to even begin to return profits, and that business model won’t sell when you can make bookoo bucks right now selling overpriced IGizmos to yuppies and hipsters.
