This isn't new. Back in 1991-2, when I was a freshmen at the Collegiate School, I was first exposed to this in World History. I made fun of it by telling the teacher "at least I'm not a WASP". The biracial teacher had no idea that I was mocking him, but my classmates did.
The Bank Street School is a very progressive institution. I'm surprised this didn't start in the 1970s.

We need to dust off the 1867-68 Reconstruction Act and apply it to New York state. The act begins by sending in troops and appointing a military governor.

The parents probably don't mind this being done to "white kids" in general - they just don't like it being done to their "white kids," who are special.

Those elite New Yorkers, descended from their European parents or grandparents, know how to get a degree and go straight for the government job and money. They’re tidy and great at putting on appearances of wealth, but they aren’t required to be loyal Americans.
