Are Republicans Writing Off Darryl Glenn’s Chances? (NRSC won't support conservative)

Darryl Glenn, a tea party favorite, on Tuesday secured the Republican nomination for Senate in Colorado, one of the only places where the GOP thought it had a real chance to pick up a seat in 2016.

But as the El Paso County commissioner makes his first run for statewide office – a challenging feat for even the most seasoned and well-financed politician in a purple state like Colorado – it is not clear that the Republican establishment is willing to give him a hand against Democratic incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet.

Senate Republican leaders instead appear to be focusing the party’s energy on helping incumbent Republicans keep their seats in a year made uncertain by Donald Trump’s rise to the top of the ticket.

A spokesman for the Senate Leadership Fund, which is helping Republicans defend their majority, declined to comment about whether the organization would get involved in the Colorado race. Similarly, National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) has been mum since Glenn’s win, despite previously declaring support for other candidates who emerged from competitive Republican primaries.

“If the GOP establishment wants to forfeit a race in a swing state and preemptively surrender the seat to the Democrats, that’s their decision. But no Republican in America should ever give them money again,” said Ken Cuccinelli, the president of the Senate Conservatives Fund, in an email to Morning Consult.

Surprise, surprise! Mitch McConnell's election arm will not support a conservative candidate in CO.

Note the incumbent senators who are in trouble this year, they're all moderates or republicans who ran as conservatives but then drank the McConnell/Establishment Kool-Aid: Ayotte (NH), Johnson (WI), Kirk (IL), Burr (NC), Toomey (PA), McCain (AZ), Rubio (FL), and even go-along Grassley (IA).

McConnell and his NRSC ilk will go ALL OUT to protect these seats, but a young, black conservative (who doesn't support McConnell for Leader) will be intentionally left out to dry.

The NSRC is more and more irrelevant.

We’ll send Bennett down the road like we did Udall.

Glenn will win.

Seems like an opportunity for Trump to hold a rally in CO, and invite Glenn on stage.

The GOP will only support candidates who agree to keep the Cheap Labor Express running.

This is actually an opportunity for Trump and Cruz to make up and do nicey.

Glenn was pushed by Cruz and also endorsed by Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin’s support for Glenn will make McConnell’s treachery irrelevant.

Money that might have gone to the Republican Senatorial Fund in previous years went instead directly to Darryl Glenn...

Bypass the middle man who takes a cut and may or may not support your candidate of choice...GOPe NEVER gets another dime from moi...

Not a valid analysis of VA. Cuccinelli was no different than the conservative before him. But Cuccinelli got 80,000 votes less than his Republican predecessor and lost by only 40,000 (round numbers).

In short, Cuccinelli and the conservatives did not have a Get-Out-The-Vote effort. Of course, that is the same reason Cruz lost. He had 500,000 small donors and another million who couldn’t afford to donate. Cruz could have run a massive ground game with those supporters. That is an average of 1,500 per congressional district, some districts 5,000.

Cruz campaign staff blew it by not using what they had avaialable. I’d average several email per day from Cruz (and Heidi) appealing for money. Not once before the primary did Cruz ask me or my friends to work a precinct. Not once did his organization respond to our pleas to get involved. The worst run conservative campaign because it was such a wasted opportunity.

If a candidate can’t run a campaign, what makes us think he can run a national bureaucracy?

It would be suicide to not support Glann. Trump must win Colorado, so we need a strong ticket. Glenn is a great candidate - no excuse not to support him.

Sorry, it’s a two way street. No reason for Trump supporters to vote for Glenn when he is openly fragging Trump.

I’d say there is no reason to support Glenn. I’m sure there are other candidates. I refuse to support anyone in Nevada who doesn’t support Trump and I’ve made that clear to them all, all the way down to County Commissioner.
