James Comey Just Gave Donald Trump a Huge Political Gift
Fortune ^ | 7/5/2016 | Dan Friedman

FBI Director James Comey’s announcement Tuesday that the agency will not recommend charges against Hillary Clinton was blatantly political, just not the way critics claim.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump tweeted that Comey’s decision not to seek charges against Clinton over her use of a personal server while she was Secretary of State shows a “#RiggedSystem.” Other Republicans chimed in to suggest Comey corruptly sought to appease his potential future boss.

But it was to avoid such criticism that Comey wandered into political positioning. Anticipating attacks and probably worried about the appearance of Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s ill-advised meeting with former President Bill Clinton, Comey tried to telegraph evenhandedness. He balanced his announcement with information about the job he was given, recommending whether to charge Clinton, with views that were not his job to share.

Comey, a Republican picked by President Obama for a 10-year term, did not have to hold a news conference to say the FBI was not seeking charges against Clinton. He said doing so was “unusual.” It was more like unprecedented.

Comey opened the surprise press conference by noting that neither the Justice Department, to which his recommendation went, nor the the rest of the Obama administration knew what he would say. The director built drama by waiting until the end of his statement to announce the FBI’s recommendation. Before he got there, he took care to trash Clinton’s handling of classified information with the immediately famous words: “extremely careless.”(snip)

Those characterizations are notable because, as he said in the same statement, Comey was not tasked with opining on Clinton’s conduct. He was in charge of the investigation into whether a crime occurred.

Or not. Between her die-hard base and the Clinton’s ability to fix the vote, what are the odds?

Crimes DID occur and Comey ignored the obvious. I can imagine how those who are HONEST FBI investigators feel about the end decision. Moral must be at an all time low in all those internal departments. The FBI lost all credibility.

I’m sure Comey’s critical remarks about Hillary’s carelessness made him feel better, one he told us she would NOT BE CHARGED because there was NO PROOF OF INTENT the interview was essentially over. After that point, it was like hearing Charlie Brown’s teacher facelessly talking in the classroom. “Wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah!”

Donald should be able to use some of those quotes to his advantage. The ads will have to be very clear and very damming. He will have to repeat them over and over, so that reporters start to ask Hillary to respond to such ads.

What Comey declared was that prosecuting Hillary had nothing in it for him. And that’s not the standard the top government law enforcement people should be using but it is what was done.

Comey found no future in being the next Ken Starr and gave Hillary a pass, not even seeking a plea deal on minor offenses.

Blah blah blah whatever. A “huge political gift” would be an indictment and Hillary facing a trial for felony level national security offenses.

Why did the Director of the FBI hold an unprecedented televised press event(it was not a “press conference”) on the morning before Obama and Clinton were headed out on Air Force One to campaign together in North Carolina?

Obama did not want to answer any questions about investigation. DOJ are the ones to decide about prosecution, not the FBI. The FBI had just interviewed Clinton on Saturday at her home. The event was on Tuesday morning. No workdays had passed between the supposed FBI interview and the unprecedented press event.

The decision not to prosecute had been made long ago. Comey was just going along with what had already been decided. He was just following orders.

I did enjoy Trump using the term “FBI Primary” yesterday in his Speech.

He beats around the bush, and avoids saying it outright, but the point of the article is that the writer feels Comey was a mean old unethical poopypants for saying mean things about Hillary.

What Trump should say:

“We now have two systems of justice in this country, one for Clinton/Obama elites and one for the rest of us. In scandal after scandal, the Clinton/Obama justice system finds no wrongdoing, no criminal charges, nobody is fired, nobody is fined and there are no consequences as long as you are part of the Clinton/Obama team.

They have succeeded in corrupting the IRS, the Justice Department, the FBI, the Department of State among others and damaged their reputation for impartiality in ways that will take decades to repair.

Future criminal defendants can just argue to judges that they want the same standard of justice that Hillary Clinton was given.

The Clinton/Obama Elites are high-fiving each other and doing their happy dances because they think they’ve gotten away with it yet again. But there is one jury still left to be heard from and that is the American people. The Clinton/Obama elites need to pay for their crimes and it will be up to the voters to render justice.”

he didn’t indict her but he destroyed her as being incompetent and utterly unqualified. As long as the Rs don’t beat this gift horse to death, those words from Conmey are going to leave a mark..

Actually, when I finally heard Comey’s presentation, the message was pretty much, “we think she’s guilty at hell but know no one at the Obama Justice department will prosecute her, so why bother.” But he was also giving Trump and the American people a clear message to arrest her after he becomes president.

Comey opened the surprise press conference by noting that neither the Justice Department, to which his recommendation went, nor the the rest of the Obama administration knew what he would say.

Which, like a lot of what Comey said was an obvious lie. There is no way 0bama would have gotten on a plane before the announcement to campaign with Hillary!® if he did not know the result in advance. [Actually, he knew the result when he nominated Comey to run the FBI.]

So one liar lied, dissembled and deflected to cover up for another liar. Yawn.

What else would you expect from a dirty cop?

Meanwhile, we have to wade through one too-clever-by-half post after another (a la John Robert's 0bamacare decision) pretending this is some kind of a win. Nope. Wasn't. It was one of the darkest days in American history: the head of the secret police openly affirmed that there are people above the law, told us to eat his sh!t, and like it.
