There are a lot of details on why this was a miscarriage of justice. The best starting place is Andy McCarthys column at National Review, FBI Rewrites Federal Law to Let Hillary Off the Hook.
But those are mere details. Important details, critical details, details worth writing about but not the big picture.
Noah Rothman at Commentary wrote:
No amount of cynicism could have prepared Americans for what they witnessed on Tuesday morning, and 2016 has not been short on cynicism.
Getting closer.
The best truly big picture view I saw was from Karol Markowicz, a columnist for the NY Post and an ex-Soviet who moved the the United States as a child.
In response to the Comey verdict, Markowicz tweeted out a statement as to how others who came from the USSR expected no other result:

Guilty as Hell, free as a bird.
>>He’s right, but FYI, William Jacobson, a once sane blogger is a #nevertrumper. Very sad descent into madness.
After yesterday, some of the nevertrumpers may start to come around.
If he didn’t understand the stakes before yesterday, he’s no better than Bill Kristol and Mitt Romney.
It’s like they will be virtually forced into becoming #whoelsers
People are not static entities.
My mom grew up in Nazi Germany. She pretty much feels the same way.
That’s a shame (that he’s a nevertrumper.
Maybe this will (hopefully) start to wake a lot of those folks up.....like Allen West, etc.
Sometimes theory has to become reality.
Whatever may have been feared of Trump’s checkered background, it does not seem to be badly polluting the Trump we know now. The cause has picked him up and set him in a fundamentally different direction.
And now, what might happen with Hillary, HAS happened with Hillary.
Don’t hoot at the skeptics or even (yet) chide them about how long it has taken to get on board. Welcome should be the word of the day.
Comey’s latest abomination is just another step down the road of a country and society that will soon become ungovernable.
Realizing this, the government will then trot out punitive measures to attempt do so.
Then the fun begins.
I’m really waiting to hear Mitt’s response to the official FBI declaration that the US now has nomenklatura.
[ No amount of cynicism could have prepared Americans for what they witnessed on Tuesday morning ]
Well, there were several folks predicting it right here on FR.
Like the dog who will bite his own tongue off.

Personally my faith in the FBI and justice system died after I researched Waco and Ruby Ridge.
People’s cube skewers Comey:

Well, our faith really ought to have been in God. But our estimation as to how much in God the people carrying on the institutions of America really trust, would have diminished with the Waco and Ruby Ridge scandals, and now has come to “virtually nil” with this misbegotten perversion of a Kabuki dance.
Pontius Pilate asked “What is truth?” — as a hardened cynical wheeler-dealer. But even he did not want to blame Jesus.
The fact that it dragged out so long, I thought months ago indicated they’d let her slide.
Still, foolishly, I kept one tiny, tiny, tiny sliver of hope.
Well, good thing I didn’t put much stock in it.
Obama knows Hillary could bury him. And Bill.
There was hardly any doubt that an Obama-Hillary-Lynch-Bill arrangement would be made. And so it was.
And then there’s Congress. The clowns that just gave the terrorist state of Iran $150 billion dollars of our cash. And Corker and Teddy helped grease the ways. Oh sure, there was a sound bite afterwards of Nay but the vote was Yea.
(sighs)
laws are for proles, not for apparatchiks.
