That preview is where Dowd invokes the specter of Trump (in this case, she mentions his finger on the nuclear button) and having to choose between the Clinton and him.
Then she writes about “imagining the Clintons in the White House with low expectations.”
So she imagines “the Clintons” in the White House, but just not as good as they should be (unconstitutional co-Presidents again), but still “better than Trump,” and she still plans to endorse Hillary Clinton in the future (Part Two).
Our education system is culpable here, dumb-ed down with history rewritten to fit the popular narrative....certainly no pride in being an American or straight or White....our government has been infiltrated also.

No, the NYT hasn't changed sides. This is a one-time slap on the wrist by the media, because it's expected (after all, mistakes were made).
This is what passes for punishment for sedition and treason in the Clinton era. There may be a parsed non-apology from the Hag-in-Chief, something along the lines of "We did nothing wrong, and we promise we won't do it again".
All on the weekend news cycle, so as to minimize, and before the convention, to give the rubes time to forget.

It may very well be, that Maureen Dowd, the author of this piece, believes that Herself has an unshakable lock on the election.
Perhaps Maureen doesn’t know “anybody” that would vote for The Donald, in her elite social circle, and extends this certainty to include all of that territory once known as “the United States of America”.
But Herself is NOT on a glide path to the Oval Office, there are a couple of pretty high hurdles to be cleared first. Herself may not even be strong enough physically to withstand the rigors of the campaign pressures once the debates begin, let alone fulfill duties of the office. At the moment, there is a pretty sure thing going on the nomination, but it is almost three weeks out, and the fit could still hit the shan among the rank and file Democrats, as the realities of the optics of the Slick-Lynch meeting just before the FBI announcement begin to sink in.
Whoever is selected as VP for Herself is almost guaranteed to be filling in at the Oval Office within an amazingly short span of time even if, by some combination of factors, Herself does manage to eke out a bare electoral college majority.
There is only one certain way to confound that set of factors, which include a CONSIDERABLE amount of vote fraud and chicanery, and that is to give The Donald such an overwhelming numerical vote advantage, that it shall be impossible to contest the findings.
There is only one #NeverHillary out there, and his name is Donald J. Trump. Attempts to subvert or deny the Republican nomination to other than The Donald is essentially lining up on the side of Herself, and is ultimately self-defeating.
Because a win for Herself is a severe loss and foreclosure of many facets of the future.
