Donald Trump is a unique threat to American democracy (WaPo Barf Alert)
Washington Compost ^ | July 22, 2016 | WaPo Editorial Board

DONALD J. TRUMP, until now a Republican problem, this week became a challenge the nation must confront and overcome. The real estate tycoon is uniquely unqualified to serve as president, in experience and temperament. He is mounting a campaign of snarl and sneer, not substance. To the extent he has views, they are wrong in their diagnosis of America’s problems and dangerous in their proposed solutions. Mr. Trump’s politics of denigration and division could strain the bonds that have held a diverse nation together. His contempt for constitutional norms might reveal the nation’s two-century-old experiment in checks and balances to be more fragile than we knew.

Any one of these characteristics would be disqualifying; together, they make Mr. Trump a peril. We recognize that this is not the usual moment to make such a statement. In an ordinary election year, we would acknowledge the Republican nominee, move on to the Democratic convention and spend the following months, like other voters, evaluating the candidates’ performance in debates, on the stump and in position papers. This year we will follow the campaign as always, offering honest views on all the candidates. But we cannot salute the Republican nominee or pretend that we might endorse him this fall. A Trump presidency would be dangerous for the nation and the world.

Why are we so sure? Start with experience. It has been 64 years since a major party nominated anyone for president who did not have electoral experience. That experiment turned out pretty well — but Mr. Trump, to put it mildly, is no Dwight David Eisenhower.

Well according to Nancy Pelosi it would be the end of human civilization if the GOP won control of the Senate, which they did, so there isn’t much left to save, so this editorial writer is fighting a lost cause.

He’s a threat alright....to the Globalist Establishment. When they hear a popular figure suggest that the US should be run for the benefit of American citizens, they poop their pants.

This persistent spewing out of the Washington ComPost is based on a very simple fact:

They are still stewing over Donald Trump pulling their credentials because they cannot believe that ANY candidate would stand up to their lies, distortions and 'RAT-directed propaganda. Toss in the Post's new owner, that bald headed bozo Jeff Bezos who hates Trump anyway, and you have a libtard 'perfect storm'.

They're going to REALLY be pissed when they find out their reporters just might be tossed from any White House coverage at all.
Trump remembers his friends, and NEVER forgets his enemies, and the ComPost has earned his enmity.

Let them see how they like spending the next eight years on the outside looking in. It gets very cold in Washington in the winter time:

Hard for anyone to campaign against a Democrat. They have free, unlimited advertising.

WaPo is upset that a non-member of the UniParty is on the ballot. They are only comfortable with RINOs like McCain who will sell out conservatism if ever it threatens to roll back any Leftist gains.

Why should the Washington Post be permitted to cover his campaign when they have essentially endorsed Hillary? They toss Gary Johnson in there at the end, but we know they won’t endorse him. They have articulated how they feel about Trump, and henceforth, there is no way they can provide unbiased coverage. They should not be credentialed the rest of the campaign. If they were going to endorse, it should not have been done until right before the election to at least give the “appearance” the coverage was fair.

I guess you covered this, but it caught my eye. After Obama, how can one even imagine saying this about Trump? Really, it's like "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain", which I guess casts Trump as Toto. I'll go with that.

Good job on this post. It’s obvious you put in a significant amount of time and effort into making it.

As far as I know, Mr. Trump has had 4 bankruptcies out of his business interests, all of which were chapter 11 reorganizations. We all know his detractors will try to claim that he abused the statute to stiff his creditors but these allegations are easy to prove false.

The closest I can come to disproving that he was against Iraq all along was on a Howard Stern show when, IIRC, Howard asked him what could be done with Iraq, after 9-11 but before the invasion. As I recall, he said something like, “well, we have to do something”. Listening to the youtube clip of the interview that I just found, Howard asked if he was in favor of invading Iraq and he replied, “yeah, I guess so, I just wish we had done it correctly the first time”. (start at about 1:30 in for question)

As for the deficit, I don’t see how Donald Trump could waste money like our current rulers (yes, I meant to call them that) if he tried so I don’t see how he could do anything but reduce the deficit spending.

Anyway, thanks for submitting such a well thought out and comprehensive post.

“Most alarming is Mr. Trump’s contempt for the Constitution and the unwritten democratic norms upon which our system depends. He doesn’t know what is in the nation’s founding document. When asked by a member of Congress about Article I, which enumerates congressional powers, the candidate responded, “I am going to abide by the Constitution whether it’s number 1, number 2, number 12, number 9.” The charter has seven articles.

Worse, he doesn’t seem to care about its limitations on executive power”

This from the same newspaper that supported obama for election and re-election.

And, by the way, Trump is clearly referring to amendments in the constitution. Of which there are more than 12.
