Germany has some of the strictest firearms laws in Europe, although there are four illegal guns on the streets for every properly registered weapon.

According to data from the German Firearms Register, there are almost 5.5 million guns in private ownership belonging to 1.4 million people.

But research by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in January estimated there are up to 20 million illegal firearms in Germany.

Obvious need for stricter gun laws in Germany. Plus, they should go ahead and make a law against illegal guns in Germany. Uh, what? So, the machete attacker was stopped by an AR-74 BMW. May as well add a picture of a BMW to the pictorial of what can be classified as an AR-15/AK-47/Glock.

German police have been raiding mosques in recent months AND finding weapons caches.

You’ve seen this news coming over the wires to your local media outlets, yes?

Good possibility the “migrants” will soon be better armed than law-abiding citizens.

Back in the pre 1974 time frame when the 1959 laws were basically the 1928 gun act, there wee a lot of German vets who had arms from the last great international debate. When the war ended not every german laid down their arms, a lot of them carefully preserved them. A lot were not registered when required by the 1974 act.

Even more so in Austria, which to a large extent managed to avoid the war guilt syndrome that sits like a black cloud over German nationalism. Lots of arms were retained by the Austrians, they are not all that different than the Swiss is their veneration of arms.

If their sons have retained the arms or not is a question worthy of consideration.

This is BS again. I am seeing a political assault on the people not only of America, but Germany, and the World with this constant, nothing will divert their focused assault on guns.

The left is relentless to the point it’s easy now to see their goal.

I was stationed in Germany for 6 years in the late 70s and 80s. We could buy firearms from the hunting club, but couldn’t take possession until we returned to the US. One of our commanders participated in organized shooting events and he had to belong to a shooting club and store his rifle at the club that he belonged to.

They are still finding operational tanks and artillery stashed in basements and out buildings. There are tons of serviceable firearms in Germany and surrounding countries. Not in the cities, but stashed by folks who know their value.

Like new Schmeissers (WWII vintage) have been turning up in the Sandbox lately, complete with ammo. A little care, and guns last a very long time.

The panther that came to light recently was known to be owned by the collector who imported it from France back in the 1970s. Heavy ordnance is and was controlled since WWII.

I am talking more along the lines of pistols and rifles with a few machine pistol 40/44 arms. Officers for the most part owned their sidearms, many junior officers were loath to turn them in, and if correctly wrapped could ride out the years when it was death to be found with a arm from 1945 to 1956. Post 1956 a lot of the work for the rebuilding arms companies such as Anschutz was refurbishment of arms stored underground/outbuildings/oil-tanks/etc for 10~11 years.

You must remember, of the most part when the German army fell apart in April of 1945 they were on German soil. There was very much of a arms tradition in Germany, particularly in the burgher class of southern Germany and Austria. Al lot of soldier in the south walked home, a lot of soldiers in the Ruhr and Harz mountains stashed their arms prior to surrender.

K98K rifles sold quite well in Germany, to be eligible for sale in the 1959 to 1974 time frame the bayonet lug had to b removed or disabled with weld, and the rear sight had to be pinned so that it would go further than 300M. Such rifles were not uncommon, especially among the men who fought the war. A lot did not accept the concept of war guilt, as their children have done.

In Austria the laws never became difficult (post 1955 when occupation ended), even today they are among the less restrictive laws in the west. In the period of 1950 to 1954 there were a considerable number of arms hidden in the western zone of occupation by the US and great Britain. This was to provide arms to prevent a communist takeover AKA like the Czech republic in 1949.

Be informative to really know how many per state the US has.
If Texas, as an example, only has one per head that would be
about 27 million just in one state and it’s likely quite a bit higher.
