The Abortion-ization of the Democratic Party

When I was in grade school, I often played at nights and on the weekends with a boy who lived a couple of houses from me. We would ride bikes, play video games, the usual stuff. But during the school day, I noticed he was always mean to me if I approached him when he was hanging out with his friends. I asked him about it once and he told me we were like “secret” friends. I was a girl and straight-A student and he was a jock so I guess in his mind we didn’t mix. That was the beginning of the end of our friendship.

I think that’s the message Republican leadership gives to pro-lifers. We’re secret friends. We now have the most pro-life platform in the history of the party yet the Republican candidate for president couldn’t find time in his 90-minute acceptance speech to mention the preborn. By selecting Mike Pence as his running mate, who has an exceptional record of protecting women and children form abortion, it’s supposed to be Trump’s secret signal to pro-lifers that he is accepting of pro-life principles.

From the media and my liberal friends, I often hear how “close-minded” Republicans are yet for the past several years, the RNC has championed a “big tent” approach by allowing those who hold conflicting core values to run well-financed campaigns for key seats and speak on the main stage of the convention while mocking the base of the party. I’m told we have to do it to show Americans that our party is really the party that welcomes all.

Yet on the other side, the Democratic National Committee pushes the pro-abortion position, no holds barred. For years they have punished their own members of the House of Representatives for remaining pro-life by stripping away clutch committee assignments and withholding campaign financing.

This week they will ratify a platform that for the first time calls for taxpayer-funded abortions in any stage of pregnancy, something more than 60% of Americans oppose, and give every major leader of the out-of-touch abortion lobby a speaking slot during the convention. Oh, and the head of EMILY’s List is a leading candidate for the DNC Chair position that just opened up.

The Democrats don’t care that they are losing in the polls on every issue surrounding abortion (20-week ban, parental consent, etc). They remain loyal to their friends and hope their push-hard-enough-against-a-negative-and-it-will-turn-positive strategy works.

The GOP should take note. If the Republican Party would hold hard and fast to our moral truths such as the right to life, we would have better candidates and elected officials that don’t betray pro-life principles, and in turn, create stronger support from the base.

Abortion will become unthinkable when both parties are trying to earn the pro-life vote. This generation of Millennials, where only 17% support the extreme position of the DNC and their nominee, will usher in that new day, as soon as the Cecile Richards’ and IIsyle Hogue's of my mother’s generation retire.

In the meantime, the Republican Party, the party that spearheaded the civil rights movement and was formed to end slavery, needs to find the strength to stick up to candidates and, more importantly, the funders who claim to simply be a “fiscal conservative.” Where else will they turn with their millions in donations? They need you as much as you need them.

Pro-life Democrats should read their own party’s own platform. They are sadly not welcome. If pro-life Democrats want change inside their party, they cannot continue to support pro-abortion Democrats. They will either have to cross the aisle or stand up to the radicalism in their own party to be taken seriously.

It's more, I think, that Hillary is pursuing the young female vote which, right now, is mostly pro-Bernie.

So abortion, paid by the government at any time whatsoever, is her big candy treat to them.

She is going to try and buy every vote she can by offering every freebie imaginable. It is going to be disgusting to watch.

And Bill Clinton was getting a lap dance from the pretty blond head of Planned Parenthood last night at the DNC convention.

Which is why, ultimately, democracy doesn't work.

We need a genuinely enlightened king who is in the possession of overwhelming firepower.

Maybe we should put an ad on Craigslist.

They still manage to pinch off millions of welfare blm babies and add 30 million illegal democrat voters along with islamo filth being paid to come here.

There is no danger of running out of welfare cases anytime soon.

if she’s gunning for young women, abortion isn’t the route.. though I am sure for liberal young women it will motivate some, but the reality is young single men are, and always have been the biggest proponents of abortion... not young women.

Philanderers, including Republican ones like Giuliani and (sorry to say) Donald Trump, may or may not like the idea of abortion--but they must recognize that their sporting pursuit of ladies they're not married to depends on it. Abortion is the ultimate backstop of sin. I've never met a confirmed playboy who was also pro-life.

We need to turn these men around. Maybe the key would be to keep reminding them subtly how unchivalrous and unmanly it is to send your mistress for an abortion. In the old days, kings and rich men paid for their bastard children and even put them in their wills.

Among the elites of whatever party, narcissism is an Achilles heel. It opens the way to other avenues of corruption.

Are you looking at opinion surveys or actual exit voting numbers? Because women are more likely to vote democrat across all age groups than men. Are there opinion surveys where young men are more in favor of abortion than young women?

Every survey ever taken among the general public determining support for abortion, young single men are ALWAYS by far the biggest supporters.

Among democratics only, I am sure young women who support it are a reasonable number, but the single biggest group that supports abortion in America, are single young men, period. No other demographic remotely comes close to their level of support.

Dear Kristan, Given the current state of the Supreme Court, there is nothing more to talk about regarding abortion. Donald J Trump has given you a list of Judges he will appoint to the Supreme Court. Do you have an objection to any of them? After two or three of them are confirmed do you think things might change? Are you going to quit your wining and go to work to elect Donald J Trump?

It is unprofitable to second guess Donald Trump. I carped about some of the things he said early on as being not wise and was left feeling like my straight got trumped.

“Abortion is the ultimate backstop of sin.”

That’s a neatly turned phrase. I usually go on and on about how contraception, antibiotics, and abortion facilitate promiscuity. Yours is better.

“Maybe the key would be to keep reminding them subtly how unchivalrous and unmanly it is to send your mistress for an abortion.”

Not to mention how unchivalrous it is to have a mistress in the first place. Whatever time, affection, and resources a man has rightfully belong to his wife, children, and elderly parents.

A man who has a mistress is stealing something monumentally important from his children.

“narcissism is an Achilles heel.”

I wonder if it isn’t the same as the sin of pride, in its theological definition.

Never met a player who was pro-life...

Dang, that's good. I have always asserted that abortion was for men. "Backstop" for players. Still, I don't fault Trump for dog-whistling the social conservatives. I like that he's out to defeat the party of Cecile Richards.

Agree. It may not be random, either. Often I've found that someone who agrees with a group of outsiders on one issue discovers that it's connected to another issue he'd never seriously considered. And he gets the bigger picture, and the reason behind everything. And converts. Oremus.
